Heferyzen is brewed with approximately 12% flaked rye to complement pale and Munich malts. A darker version of the beer, Mud in Yer Rye, which has become quite popular at Big Time, is brewed with an additional 5% dark roasted rye (custom roasted by Briess), to give the beer a darker color and drier flavor to offset the sweetness and mouthfeel of the flaked rye in the recipe.
