Milestone is a robust porter—dark, rich and full-bodied with a complex palate displaying hints of chocolate, figs, raisins, toasted nuts, and a subtle sour smokiness. Drinkers in early eighteenth century London were in the habit of ordering a combination of two or three different cask ales to be blended into their glass. Eventually a local brewer developed a beer that was said to combine the merits of the entire range in one cask. His delivery man was in the habit of shouting “Porter!” to announce his arrival to his customers and the name stuck.
