A Belgian Dubbel was thought to be first brewed at the Trappist monastery Westmalle as a light colored beer with an abundance of sugar and moderate alcohol. Today the style is a darker, malty brew with mild bitterness and moderate alcohol.
Appearance – Dark brown malty beer that pours with a nice tan head that lingers for a nice amount of time.
Aroma – Rich malt with notes of dark fruits, such as plums, raisins and figs and a slight aroma of stone fruit, like cherry.
Flavor – Very mild bitterness that complements the rich malt character.
Mouthfeel – Medium body a slight creamy character.
Finish – Some residual sweetness.
