Belma is the newest entry into the Hermitage Brewing Company family of single hop IPAs. This hop varietal is a dual purpose hop, meaning it can be used for bittering and/or flavoring/aromatic purposes. Belma has an alpha acid range from 10.4% – 11.6%. This hop varietal gets its name from the tiny community of Belma, just northeast of Mabton, Washington. The name “Belma” was coined by T.W Howell, a Mabton realtor. Howell’s mother was a big fan of the song Sweet Belle Mahone and would often combine the lyrics “Belle” and “Mahone” into “Belma”. Belma hops can exhibit the orange, grapefruit, pineapple, strawberry and melon flavors and aromas. Belma has an assertive hop bitterness that doesn’t linger long on the palate.
