Many Iowans know firsthand that farming can be hot, physical work. The Saison beer style was first developed centuries ago to overcome poor water conditions and hydrate farm workers on hot days.
Saison Des Moines was created by our farm-boy-turned-head-brewer, John Martin, as a homage to the simple-but-elegant Saison DuPont. It’s built on Belgian pilsner malt and flaked wheat with east Kent Golding, Motueka and Citra hops plus French Saison yeast. This very effervescent brew has a light banana aroma with medium body that’s well attenuated, dry and fruity, with a pepper and clove aroma and flavor and a very slightly sour finish. Original Saison was very low alcohol, but ours packs a 7.5% ABV, so finish your chores before enjoying some!
