In the early 1800s when Sitka's economy depended on whale parts and animal pelts, Alexander Baranov governed the land in the name of the Russian-American Company. He must have impressed someone because they named the 1600 square mile island on which the brewery sits after him. Our brown ale doesn't know anything about fur trading, but its chocolate malt does make it as sweet and smooth as a baby seal.
