Our first Anniversary Ale was brewed with hundreds of pounds of locally grown blood oranges. This monster beer also clocked in at 9% alcohol. The blood oranges added an interesting grapefruit aroma and flavor along with a pleasant bitterness. Brewed once in 2009 and perhaps never again.
The idea for this brew came from owner Ben Cook's original attempts at crafting the Orange Wheat beer as a homebrewer. The first attempt came out with way too much alcohol, but after an extended aging tasted great. The same extra alcohol and extended aging were brewed (on purpose) into the IBOW.
