If you ask what 1836 stands for, we'll ask you to put down our beer and leave our country Texas is more than just tumbleweeds. It’s shining star, Houston, was founded on the banks of the Buffalo Bayou in 1836. Wild, earthy and soulful, yet balanced in its boldness, 1836 represents a fresh start for beer in Houston. This beer combines two of our favorite flavors: a sweet and toasty measure of Victory malts counter-balanced with the earthy, woody, floral aspects of our favorite hops.

An assertive American style pale ale in which mild caramel notes showcase the citrusy character of the iconic hop varieties of the Pacific Northwest.

In 1862, President Lincoln signed the Morrill Act into law, giving the American populous the opportunity to seek a higher education. It called and provided for one great state university in each state of the Union and inadvertently led to tailgate parties, marching bands, fight songs and Bowl Games. Ohio took advantage in 1870, building a fine university right here in Columbus. As Justin Morrill proposed to put a degree in the people’s right hand, the Land-Grant Brewing Company seeks to put a quality beer in the left. Our 1862 Ale, a German-style Kölsch, is a crisp and easy-drinking beer, especially perfect for when that big rival from the north comes to town.

We grew this beer with Cascade & Chinook hops grown at the Ruhstaller Farm & Yard in Dixon, California and California Common hops grown at Utterback Farms in Sloughouse, California.

This beer is a Golden Ale named after the 1956 Hungarian Revolution in tribute to the young freedom fighters that stood against the communists occupying their country. Steve’s dad, Steven Kaczeus Sr. was one of those brave students at the University of Budapest at the time. Perfect for: sitting on the patio, watching grass grow and listening to the birds sing.

A turn of the century pure malt, crisp lager. 1st Amendment Lager is made with European style hops and Munich malts. Some predict this symbolizes the end of time as we know it. Inspired by this mystery, we offer Point 2012 Black Ale to help contemplate this 'end of time' or perhaps a 'new beginning.' Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, “Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker.” Surely! Of course, we couldn’t stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!

Brewed by infusion with strong and hearty Flemish hops, then fermented using top yeasts, 3 Monts Golden Ale is perfectly balanced between malt aroma, fruity flavours and bitterness. The head is generous, dense and long-lasting. Golden hue with lovely head that disspiates to fine lace.

Mid-strength but high flavour fruity Queensland ale. Subtlely dextrinous, the malt profile rounds out the palate but remains controlled to allow the fruity hop flavours to shine through. Need to get up early tomorrow? Buy yourself a little Time.

Held to the light, this Amber Ale shines brilliantly and hints at the solid malt backbone. The nose is filled with scents of citrus, and tropical fruits which emerge from the wonderful use of Equinox hops. Buried beneath these initial aromatics is the suggestion of the blend of malts which combine to set this Amber apart. The flavors lead with a slightly elevated bitterness which then flow into the medium bodied mesh of malted barleys. Sessionable and assertive.
