Abbey Ale

Ommegang Abbey Ale is directly influenced by the patience and wisdom of the Trappists, who ever seek divine union—a pretty high standard for a beer, but a good one, we think. Our first ever beer, with which we opened the doors in 1997, and still one of our two bests sellers. Deep burgundy color, rich and malty, with aromas of anise, fresh apricot, chocolate and honey, topped by a dense tan head. Rich on the palate but with a dry finish. Develops wonderful caramel, fig, and currant notes with age. Enjoy Ommegang Abbey Ale with savory dishes, slow-cooked pork, marinated roasts, barbeque, rich cheeses, and almost every dessert. Ommegang Abbey Ale has been recognized many times, most recently with a gold medal at the 2010 World Beer Cup.

Abbey Ro-ad

This is Belgian Blonde Abbey Ale has a wonderful fruity ester bouquet combined with a light earthy/spicy flavor. This beer is well balanced with hops and yeast phenolics that finishes out a bit on the dry side. Despite it’s light crispiness, generous additions of sugar at the end of the boil means this beer could still leave you crossing the road without your shoes on, or sitting in the back of a car debating the correct pronunciation of the word “road”.

Abel Brown

Abel Brown is a character in an old sea shanty about a sailor trying to convince a fair maiden to let him crash at her house. We assume that Abel had a few pints before the story begins and he probably needed to keep his palate wet while the story goes on, but he also couldn’t get too drunk since he knew this was going to be a long mission. So we made the educated guess that his brew of choice would have been a lower ABV, coffee blended ale, that didn’t weigh him down and kept him feeling refreshed. Cheers to you Abel Brown!

Abita Root Beer

Abita Root Beer is made with a hot mix process using spring water, herbs, vanilla and yucca (which creates foam). Unlike most soft drink manufacturers, Abita sweetens its root beer with pure Louisiana cane sugar. The resulting taste is reminiscent of soft drinks made in the 1940s and 1950s, before bottlers turned to corn sugar and fructose. Some soft drink makers add caffeine to their product, but Abita is naturally caffeine-free. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an old-fashioned root beer float. Abita Root Beer can also be used in cooking to create delicious glazes and sauces as well as cakes and other desserts, or you can keep it simple – just pour it into a frosty mug and slurp loudly through a straw.

Abner Amber Ale

Our beautiful Amber named Abner is a session brew dedicated to California State Senator Abner Weed, founder of the town in which we craft our delicious brews. The red colored ale has a stable, tan head, and an aroma of mild hops with overtones of carmel and roasted malt. This rich ale starts sweet and malty, then progresses into a light bitter flavor. Slightly thick on the palate, our Amber at 5.5% ABV has a balanced bitterness resulting from a combination of Chinook and Cascade hops. It ends clean with a light lingering bitterness at 43 IBUs. We raise our glasses in celebration to our town Weed!"

Take your taste buds to the stars. This Ale is the first brewed in Kansas since the pioneering days. The name "Ad Astra" comes from the Kansas State Motto - Ad Astra per Aspera, Latin words meaning "To the Stars Through Difficulties". Addlehead

The success of Addlehead with the Blue Bucket Mine in the legend is attributed mostly to luck. Similarly, George Hodgson of the Bow Brewery in 1800s London, is commonly credited with inventing “pale ale for India”, what is now known as IPA. Instead, according to The Beer Connoisseur, ONLINE, India Pale Ale seems to have developed out of the idea current at least as far back as the 1760s that it was “absolutely necessary” to add extra hops to beer intended to be drunk in hot climates. The Bow Brewery became the dominant shipper of the lighter style beer to India, mostly because of its close proximity to the East India Company docks on the River Thames. Lady Luck strikes again. The Addlehead IPA formula calls for a blending of 5 grains and 3 hops to produce a beer that IPA devotees appreciate but others also find pleasantly tasty. Addlehead has a golden yellow color and a full, rich body with a creamy head and a medium lace. It is rated at 95 IBU (International Bitterness Units), but it has a balanced hint of sweetness which is rare in an IPA. Most importantly, it retains the signature IPA hoppy finish.

Adnams Broadside

Brewed with Pale Ale malt and First Gold hops, Broadside is a dark ruby red beer rich in fruitcake aromas, almonds and conserved fruit. Brewed to commemorate the fierce Battle of Sole Bay fought against the Dutch Republic in 1672 off the Southwold coast, Broadside has enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame. It’s a fine heart-warming English beer, rich in flavours of malt and hops which enjoys a special place in many people’s hearts.

Adnams Gunhill

At 4.0% abv, this is a traditional dark ruby beer described as across between a dark mild and a brown ale. We use a blend of 4 different malts to give a rich dark beer that belies its low ABV. The toffee, chocolate and spicy flavours come from the Chocolate, Crystal and Aromatic malted barleys and the sweetness left from the Tipple malted barley is balanced by the bitterness from the Boadicea hops. First brewed in 2008, this beer was chosen to celebrate one of Southwold’s famous landmarks – the six cannons that face out to sea. It is said these cannons, weighing 18 pounds each, were given to the town in 1746 by the Royal Armouries as a protection to shipping against raids. See them for yourself when you next visit us. The cannons are still fired ( which is quite a spectacle) for special occasions in Southwold.

Adnams Innovation

This 6.7% abv beer is our version of an American IPA. It’s brewed with a blend of Wheat and Pale Ale malts to give a spicy, biscuity undertone to the beer, but it is in the hops where the beer really shines. A blend of hops from England, Slovenia and America (namely Boadicea, Columbus and Stryian Goldings) combine to give a wonderful grapefruit and tropical fruit aroma and bitterness that is balanced by the sweetness of the barley. Originally brewed as a one off to celebrate the opening of our new brewhouse and our new distribution centre, it is now one of our permanent beer. The beer was created under the direction of our Chairman, Jonathan Adnams, whose instruction was to ‘Brew something to wow me’. It came first in its class at the 2008 World beer awards and has also won a Gold medal at the 2008 BBI (British Bottlers Institute) awards.

Aerial IPA

Aerial IPA is a hop-forward American style India Pale Ale, named after an aggressive surfing maneuver. Starting off with a strong aroma of dank resins and citrus from generous dry-hopping, Aerial boasts similar flavors on the palette balanced against a restrained bready malt backbone, finishing with a lingering hoppiness that isn’t overly bitter. The light body keeps the beer refreshing and allows the hops to shine through without too much malt sweetness to negate the power of the aggressive hopping.
