IMPERIAL SOUR BLONDE ALE AGED IN WINE BARRELS WITH MUSCAT GRAPES, PEACHES, NECTARINES & VANILLA BEANS
Splendid Population is our ode to California, whose inhabitant Mark Twain called a “Splendid Population.” Twain saw a population people of “magnificent dash and daring and a recklessness,” and in that spirit we made this beer-wine hybrid. Blended from barrels of imperial sour blonde ale, muscat grapes, nectarines and vanilla beans to make a beer that is part wine, part summer fruit harvest, all California. The result is a beer exploding with flavor, personalty and aroma, tied to the costal dirt we call home. Pair with celebratory dinners with friends, roast chicken, foraged abalone and peach ice cream.
“It was a Splendid Population – for all the slow, sleepy, sluggish-brained sloths stayed at home – you never find that sort of people among pioneers – you cannot build pioneers out of that sort of material. It was that population that gave to California a name for getting up astounding enterprises and rushing them through with a magnificent dash and daring and a recklessness of cost or consequences, which she bears unto this day – and when she projects a new surprise the grave world smiles as usual and says, “Well, that is California all over.” – Mark Twain, Roughing It
