A Danish Sour Gruit ale based on a 15th century recipe, this ale is a collaboration between Sam Calagione and Anders Kissmeyer from Norrebro Bryghus Brewery in Copenhagen. Ingredients included pale and dark barley malt, oats, fine syrup (maple syrup from Sam's dad's farm in Massachusetts), smoked dark syrup, fir branches and bark, wood sage, hyssop, blackthorn berries, woodruff, and star spice. The beer has a bright copper color with a very sparse and fragile head. The aroma is extremely complex and spicy, with notes of anise, tobacco, brettanomyces, leather and dried fruits. The body is rich and with a delicate sweetness that balances the sour tartness, making it far more accessible than a Belgian lambic, which would be the only well known style to which one could possible remotely compare Old Odense Ale. This beer, which pretty much defies any known style or category (if pressed, you could remotely compare it to a Belgian Lambic).

Old Oscar's Brown Sugar is a special blend of barley malts and hops, along with a healthy measure of brown sugar that results in a surprisingly smooth dark ale. Slight toffee and raisin notes, with a mild hop finish, this ale is a perfect transition brew from the chilly nights of winter to the breezy days of spring.

A grand old wheatwine made with Massachusets malted wheat A tribute to the history and stature of the famous Somerville landmark, ‘Old Powderhouse Wheat Wine’ features a varietal of hard, red winter wheat that was grown at Four Star Farms in Northfield, MA and malted by Valley Malt in Hadley, MA. Praised by artisanal bakers, the flavors contributed by this hardy grain are earthy and complex helping to create a robust and powerful beer worthy of its name and the history to which it pays homage. For hops, only domestic varieties were used for ‘Old Powderhouse,’ combining perfectly with the rich flavors in the wheat for a bright and wonderfully aromatic beer reminiscent of fresh, ripe fruit. On the dry side for a beer of its strength and style, ‘Old Powderhouse’ is remarkably drinkable at 11% ABV with only subtle hints of alcohol coming through the fruity bouquet during the finish.

The Barleywine style obtained its name by being a beer brewed of wine strength. TCB'S is deep copper colored and full bodied. Old Pueblo Barleywine is intensely malty with a complex fruity-ester character, balanced by a healthy hoppiness and high alcohol content.

Several varieties of chocolate malt flavor this robust porter style. Balanced with English east Kent Golding and Cascade hops, Old Redwood Porter is sure to quench the thirst of any dark beer lover. Served unfiltered. 5.5% Volume

Old Richland - Our spin on a barley wine and by "our spin" we mean incredibly hoppy. This American-style barley wine oozes with pine and citrus hop character, but the hop bitterness is nicely rounded with the malty backbone of this 9% abv ale.

An American style stout with a moderate hop bitterness and a surprisingly medium-light body. We start by using caramel and roasted barley malts and mash at a lower temperature that is common for this style. We then use American hops to balance the bitterness to make a unique flavored dark beer.

This special release of our acclaimed, hefty barley wine has been aged for 9 months in Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey barrels. The process tempers Old Ruffian's edges for a mellowed version with heady whiskey flavors and subtle oak notes. Bottle conditioned, it'll age nicely for years. If you can resist it that long.

This year’s winter warmer is complemented by cocoa nibs and Mexican Chocolate, while the German wheat beer yeast strain lends banana-rama goodness. Old Saint Chango, patron saint of our monkey friends, requested this beer himself.

The first in our series of rotating IPAs, this light blonde ale has very little malt character to get in the way of the big, bold burst of dank, piney, citrusy, and herbal hop characters. Featuring all old school hop varieties; Cascade, Chinook, & Columbus, this IPA is plenty bitter but doesn’t go overboard in bite or ABV like many of today’s versions are wont to do.

Figure 8 aged for 6 months in smooth ambler old scout bourbon barrels; this strong ale's spice profile is further pronounced by the barrel-aging, and the bold vanilla notes of the oak & spirit flow seamlessly into the brew's decadent malt profile; brewed with 30 lbs of dried figs, as well as brown sugar, cinnamon & nutmeg.

If Old Scrooge can’t get you in the Holiday spirit nothing can. A rich amber ale, ripe with fruit and spice, Old Scrooge’s character will fully develop as it warms. Intriguing notes of apple, cherry and apricot occur naturally as a result of its unique fermentation and extended aging.
