Our Schwarzbier, or “Black Lager,” is a refreshing take on “dark” beer. A traditional schwarzbier is essentially the recipe for a light colored lager with just enough dark malt to turn is a beautiful ruby-tinged black. Expect a touch of roast character to accompany this crisp and malty beer. Unlike a traditional stout, our schwarzbier finishes light and bready.

Brewed with a Bavarian Lager yeast and cold-conditioned for several weeks. Dark as a porter but crisp as a pilsner, our Schwarzbier is the beer to enjoy while transitioning from winter to spring.

The Cool Springs Brewery Schwarzbier is an ale version of a black German larger. This dark beer is not as full bodied as a porter or a Stout and is exceptionally smooth and easy to drink.

A German inspired light-bodied black ale dominated by roasty burnt caramel and toffee notes. Northwest hops add a non-traditional citrus and resin character to result in a rich, yet surprisingly light and smooth dark ale.

Schwarzbier is an opaque black lager that reveals deep ruby undertones in the light. Munich, Pilsner and Black Malt flavors play off the flowery, spicy notes of Noble German hops. Cold fermentation and conditioning with Bavarian lager yeast assures a clean draught with a dry finish. We are extraordinarily pleased to present this exceptional specialty lager.

German lager built on pilsner base malt and a few specialty malts, made black with Midnight Wheat malt. Hopped with Hallertau and fermented with the Weihenstephan 206 strain.

Black Lager Schwarzbier is a traditional German Schwarzbier with a refreshingly light body. The dark chocolate malts contribute color and hints of roasted coffee balanced by the delicate aroma of German Noble hops. Translated from German, Schwarzbier means black beer. Schwarzbier originated in the 16th Century in southeastern Germany where it is still brewed today. The style enjoyed a heyday in St. Louis in the late 1800s, but large scale production of dark lagers failed to resurface after Prohibition. In 2007, the beer community of St. Louis honored St. Louis Dark Lager as the official beer of the inaugural St. Louis Brewers Heritage Festival, an annual tasting event that celebrates the many breweries thriving in St. Louis today.

Ein Bär von einem Bier. Kräftig, mystisch und schwarz. Für dieses Bier verwendet unser Braumeister feinstes dunkles Malz. Durch das Darren bei hohen Temperaturen gewinnt der schwarze Bär seine dunkle Farbe und das ausgeprägte feine, malzige Aroma. Natürlich nach dem deutschen Reinheitsgebot gebraut, so wie es sich für ein ausgezeichnetes Dunkelbier gehört.
