In Scotland the pub expression for this beer is “wee heavy,” which denotes the rich malty body and high alcohol of this Scottish style ale. Seven different varieties of malted barley, including one that has been lightly smoked, give this ale its complex maltiness.

This delicious medium-bodied Ale is brewed in the traditional Scottish Ale style, using no less than six quality malts. The result is a deep ruby coloured ale with a rich, robust flavour and notes of caramel. Best enjoyed between 6-8ºC.

Like fine Single Malt Scotch, this incredibly rich, malty 100 shilling Scotch Ale is brewed to Edinburgh's historic brewing traditions. Clean yet incredibly complex, this ale is deep-burnished garnet in color, with a very mild hopping that enhances its slight toasted character.

A rich strong ale with enough malt to raise your winter kilt. The sweet aroma and smooth body mask the mule kick that this ale packs. Reminiscent of a mild lowland Scotch whiskey.

Scotch ales are characterized by their full body, pronounced malty sweetness and low hop levels. Generally deep amber to brown in color, with caramel and subtle roasted malt flavors, Scotch ales can feature smoky flavors (derived from a small measure of peated malt) or, more traditionally, no smoky flavor. Our Scotch Ale is a bold amber beer that balances smooth rich sweetness with a hint of peat smoked malt. The infusion of this subtle smokiness invites images of heather fields, platters of haggis, & the poetry of William McGonagall. Enjoy one with your mates!

We infused a robust bourbon flavor into premium reserve Scotch Ale by aging it five weeks in white oak bourbon barrels. The balance of six different malts and two varieties of hops compliments the hearty bourbon essence of this decadent Scotch Ale. Robust Porter aged in Macallan Scotch Oak Barrel for 4 months

Stylistically speaking, Scotch on Scotch is an Imperial Scotch Ale aged on Scotch barrel chips. A massive malt presence is created by layering caramel and amber malts with just a touch of peat smoked malt for additional complexity. Brief resting on oak chips following primary fermentation allows Scotch On Scotch to coax rich woody, char and vanilla notes along with the essence of Scotch whisky into a hearty, warming beer, 
a liquid fireplace of sorts. Hopping with Magnum, Chinook and Northern Brewer hops contributes a spicy earthiness 
to Scotch On Scotch. Pouring deep chestnut brown, Scotch on Scotch opens with aromas of fig and raisin punctuated by subtle oak and whisky character. A combination of caramel malts is accented by an addition of dark brown sugar during the boil resulting in suggestions of toffee and molasses and a slightly sticky mouthfeel. Aging on Scotch whisky barrel chips lends complexity and structure to Scotch on Scotch as it tapers to a rich, lingering finish featuring spicy/earthy notes provided by Northern Brewer hops.

Brewed every fall when the jalapeno and habanero peppers are available. This hot version of our Illegal Ale-ien is only on draft for our Brewery Anniversary and then at Three Tides until the keg kicks.

Don't be put off by the dark color, baby. This beer won't bite you - not hard anyway. Chocolate, Roasted, and Crystal malts give flavors of hazelnut and mocha, but it's all right because two big scoops of wheat make for one light-bodied beauty that is easy to drink for the whole crew. Mt. Hood hops balance the malt with just a hint of bitterness. Now that's smooth. It all comes together to make this beer great to get down to, and a staff favorite.

This traditional Scottish ale gained its unique name during the 1800's when it was referred to the price of ale per barrel. The Scottish 70 is our lightest beer at Blue Stallion Brewing Co and would have cost 70 shillings back in the mid 19th century, hence the name “70 Shilling”. We only use a small amount of British hops in this beer, so it has a distinct malty sweetness as well as a slight caramel taste. This particular beer has a deep amber color and gives off a light and fruity aroma. This beer is fermented at slightly cooler temperatures to simulate the typical Scottish brewing techniques.

Our traditionally-brewed Scottish-style ale is made with nine different malts resulting in a complex, ultra-smooth, slightly sweet, full-bodied, malty ale.

Our Scottish Ale is loaded with a clean malt flavor layered throughout the beer. We created this beer to be malt forward, yet sessionable. East Kent Golding hops are used to balance but not overpower the malt profile. Big enough to comfort that malt craving, yet very smooth and balanced. Enjoy!e.
