STOUT

The strong presence of dark chocolate is nicely balanced with hints of roasted barley and english hops. A warming stout that will age beautifully in a bourbon barrel (winter '16).

Is there a more appropriately named beer style than stout? Dark, robust, opaquely possessive of heady aromas and rich fulfilling flavor, its name defines its assets. Ours is brewed with layers of roasted barley and black malts, and just enough flavor hops for a balanced smooth finish. By any definition, a superior beer. Also available aged in bourbon barrels.

Another classic British creation, although the history is a bit sketchy, we will say that stout is a stronger version of a porter (another beer style) characterized by relatively large amounts of roasted barley and/or black malt making the brew very dark and giving it a roast bitterness with coffee–like and chocolate flavors. Our stout uses the addition of oats and brown sugar for added complexity.

Many people will avoid this category when trying new beers. They don't like to drink motor oil and honestly, who can blame them? While our Stout is definitely a dark beer and will keep you well lubricated, it's far from motor oil. The specialty grains and fresh yeast provide a wonderful complex beer that delights even the most discernible palate. The roasted character will dominate the first sip, but easing right in behind it will be hints of coffee, vanilla, chocolate and other wonderful toasted flavors and aromas. The next time you're at the lodge don't be afraid to come over to the dark side. Who knows, you might just stay awhile.
