Street Porter

Porter is a classic London beer style with a long and colourful history. It originated in the city around 300 years ago and while there are conflicting accounts of the exact origins of Porter, it’s clear the beer has been enjoyed by hard-working Londoners for centuries. Ching Li Chew did such a great job on the Wu Gang label that we asked her to tackle the Street Porter design too. She came up with this hand drawn cityscape showing the old and new city existing in parallel. If you look closely you can see the three of us outside our railway arch.

Street Light Serenade

“I’ll sing this song to my bike and everything else that I like. I look at all the cars I pass, I cruise myself in the glass.” Streetlight Serenade (to a bicycle) is a song by the Bouncing Souls and has inspired our assistant brewer Titus’ latest solo brew: an Orange Blossom Honey Stout. A dry and somewhat bitter base stout lends itself to the warm balance that sweet orange blossom honey provides. The honey was added late enough to the brew to allow for its true character to come through in the finished beer and contributes a wonderful floral character. A lower ABV makes this treat of a brew drinkable by the pint. Enjoy the ride!

Stricktly Roots

Dandelion and Burdock Porter The idea for this beer (like all the best ideas) came from a chance meeting down the pub. We ran into John the Poacher in The Cock Tavern and got talking about Hackney Marshes, foraging and beer. Again, like a lot of good ideas, who actually came up with it first is shrouded in a haze of creativity, banter and drunkenness. Anyway the result is a uniquely local product that speaks eloquently of it’s provenance and Hackney’s terroir. Pete Fowler designed the label for Strictly Roots! PETE FOWLER!! It’s unbelievable but true. He’s a legend and one of the most talented artist, designer, DJs in the history of the world ever and he did our label! Yes, get in!!

Strom Bomb Stout

An Oatmeal Stout by style. This is a fairly large beer. Very dark in color. This big malty beer is filled with complex flavors which include, caramel, toffee, coffee, and espresso flavors. The addition of 150 pounds of oatmeal to this brew helps smooth out all those complex flavors creating a slightly creamy mouth feel. This beer is hopped just enough to balance out the high level of sweetness in this beer.

Strong Ale

The Strong Ale is a type of English Old Ale, typically aged for at least a decade before being served. The ale is pale golden, although not as light as its obvious cousin, the Belgian Tripel. This beer is vastly more bitter than our Double Hop IPA and our Mega IPA, making it our bitterest ale. This bitterness is offset by the sweetness of the beer, and the distinct finish. The robust flavorings have been well-rounded and the result is a very mellow beer with an absolutely incredible amount of flavor. We only tap a keg of this ale a year, typically in March.
