23rd Anniversary

When we started brewing back in 1989, the closest thing in town to an English-style Old Ale came in a paper bag. Twenty-three years later, we like to think we had something to do with improving the local beer selection in San Diego. Our 23rd Anniversary Old Ale is indeed “old ale,” after spending a full year in American oak bourbon barrels. The result is an unblended and unmistakably complex strong ale with rich layers of toffee, molasses, dried figs, warming bourbon, and toasted oak. Save a bottle. Like us, this one gets better with age.

25 to One

Quickly after hatching the brainchild that has become Stillwater Artisanal, our good friend and cellar-master extraordinaire, Casey Hard of Max’s Taphouse stepped right up to have us debut our first public release during their annual Belgian Beer Festival. This year, the fest marks our first anniversary and 2011 also signifies 25 years of Max’s. For this occasion we crafted an elegantly deep, dark ale that features elements of roast, light smokiness, and beautiful fruity esters attributed to the Belgian yeast strain used. Thanks for an amazing first year.

Celebrating 25 years of brewing, this strong amber ale carries on our tradition of flavorful, balanced beers. 25th Anniversary Apricot Ale

The second volume of our Anniversary Series is this Belgian-style apricot ale. Pours a golden-orange color from the apricot purée with a fine, off-white head. The apricot-forward nose, followed by spice and malt, gives way to mild pear and melon esters followed by a biscuity malt aroma. The fruit melds well with the malty sweetness, like apricot preserves on a fresh baked biscuit, while earthy and spicy U.S. Saaz hops balance the sweet entry. Apricot, malt, and spicy hop flavors all linger, a refreshing crowd pleaser on a summer day.

25th Anniversary Double IPL

We flipped the couch cushions, unzipped the fanny packs and emptied our pockets in search of all the dank, juicy hops we could pull from our stash. When the smoke cleared we threw some Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic, Galaxy, Columbus and Sorachi Ace into the kettle and developed a Double India Pale Lager for our 25th Anniversary. This big, bold boom box in a bottle brings the beat and delivers a hip-shaking hoppiness that dances around the palate.

25th Anniversary Imperial Pumpkin

The third installment of our Anniversary series beers pays homage to the Brewery’s first few years, and to its Wisconsin roots: Brandy Barrel-Aged Imperial Pumpkin Lager. It pours a copper-orange with a fine, off-white head. The aroma is caramel-forward, followed by cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, oak, and subtle brandy notes. The full, moderately bright mouthfeel starts with cinnamon, nutmeg, and caramel malt, then yields Madagascar vanilla bean, oak, and brandy flavors. A lingering oak and malty sweetness are left on the palate; a reminder of how we’ve honed our craft over the past 25 years.

25th Anniversary Imperial Stout

We only turn 25 once, and to celebrate, we brewed a rich imperial stout with cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, and cherry purée. First of four in our series, it pours a deep, dark black with a mocha brown head that gradually retreats to the edges of the glass. A strong chocolate aroma arises, followed by sweet malt and mild tart cherry. The full, dense mouthfeel yields a malty sweetness followed by chocolate, cherry, and vanilla flavors, then finishes with a slight alcohol warmth, leaving roasted malt and chocolate notes until the next sip.

25th Anniversary Vanilla Double Dog

Turbodog® is the inspiration for this robust dark ale. Double Dog is brewed with generous amounts of pale, caramel, and chocolate malts and Willamette hops. Whole, natural vanilla beans are added during the aging process. This combination provides a rich body and color with chocolate, vanilla and toffee-like flavor. 25 years ago the Abita Brewing Company was founded on a pristine, artesian aquifer north of New Orleans. For a quarter of a century, Abita has proudly brewed full-flavored ales and lagers. We thank our loyal customers for their support and pledge to continue the tradition of brewing excellence.

27th Anniversary

We brewed this 100% Wheat Malt beer to celebrate our 27th anniversary. Our 27th Anniversary Wheatwine is brewed in the Barleywine style, but contains no barley malt, instead, it is mashed and brewed with 100% Wheat Malt. The beer has a rich golden hue and is brewed with Wheat and CaraWheat Malts and hopped with a blend of UK and NW hops. Complex aromas of apricot, spice, and citrus lead to a smooth palate, blended with notes of caramel, marmalade, and green hop overtones. Doesn’t that sound like a great reward for being good or what? And for turning 27. Cheers! (ABV 9.5% IBU 53.5)

29'er

During early spring around here tend to get cabin fever. Snow is fine, but at some point you just need to shred some mud! In that spirit, we offer this India Brown Ale in celebration of the season. Big'er, Bad'er and Bold'er, the 29'er is the bike (and beer) to go huge on. With 29" wheels instead of the usual 26", this monster bike eats the trail up in chunks. We thought it a suitable name for this slightly more aggressive India Brown Ale. 29'er is a classic brown with a hoppy roasted nose to balance a nutty, strong malt body that finishes with smooth chocolate and coffee undertones. Goes well with the adrenaline rush of bombing down a backcountry trail. Enjoy the ride, friends. Bombs Away! Malt: NW Pale Malt, Bonlander Munich, Brown. 2nd Anniversary Ale

Hangar 24's second Anniversary Ale marked our first attempt at a Belgian-Style beer. This type of beer requires special yeast that provides interesting spicy flavors and aromas. We used fresh-pressed apple cider from Los Rios Apples in Oak Glen and combined it with carmelized sugar made for us by a local culinary school. The combination of yeast, apple and caramel (along with some malt and hops) created unique flavors of clove spice, bready apple pie and a sweet, fruity finish. Brewed in the summer of 2010, this beer will be around for a limited time. Come get a pint or a growler fill before it is gone!
