British Bitter

Our look at British Pale Ale is a bit more opportunistic but still within the "Special/Best/Premium" style. We wanted a nice bright session beer with the Bitter concept (medium Gold, good clarity, low maltiness, dry finish, bitterness) and came up with one that incorporates North American Hops- Centennial- that keep the beer punchy. This is a newish trend within the style and one that we feel keeps the flavor bright and refreshing.)

British Black

A Robust Porter on Nitro! The British Black has a nice roast malt flavor with hints of coffee. The silky cream colored head adds a fullness to the beer that helps carry a mild sweetness across the palate. Serving this beer on nitro helps pull the espresso-like flavors and rich maltiness together. Hops: Northern Brewer, Willamette Malt: Pale, Caramel 60, Black, Chocolate

British Mild

Chances are good you've not had a Mild Ale. Reason? The times-they-are-a-changin. Mild Ale is a fine drinkin ale- it is meant to be consumed absolutely fresh- but it has by today's standards a very low ABV which has unfortunately is not as sexy as that 7.2% late hopped uberkool IPA everybody is talking about. Thats fine. Mild Ale don't care. Guess What? Dig on its tawny brown color! Its subtle First Gold Hop note! Herbs! Caramel! Roast! Yeast you can TASTE! All in a 3.9% ABV package. I tell you what. If this doesn't catch on like it first did in the 17th Century I'll eat my rotary phone. (note: I will not eat my phone)

The Broad Street Market is located just blocks from the Appalachian Brewing Company. Broadcaster Brown Ale

How do you honor the 20th anniversary of an internationally embraced, beloved Philadelphia institution like WXPN’s World Cafe? Brew a beer, naturally. Working with David Dye, the man at the heart of World Cafe, Philadelphia Brewing Co is proud to present – Broadcaster Brown Ale; a medium-bodied, deep red-brown hued ale brewed with American hops and oats along aromatic German dark malts. Just like World Cafe, Broadcaster Brown Ale is both satisfying, and contemplative; with a silky malt sweetness, the complex flavors of kilned German malts, and the dry finish of our American hops. Raise a glass of Broadcaster Brown Ale, catch a bit of David Dye’s groove, and say Cheers! To another 20 years of World Cafe!

Broadway Kölsch

A golden-hued, top fermented (ale) beer produced in the metropolitan area of Bonn-Cologne. Under German law, when it is brewed elsewhere in Germany, the name of the locality must precede the word Kölsch. Kölsch takes its name from German city of Cologne, which is "Köln". Cologne has always been known for its ales they have brewed...they banished lager brewing up to the mid-18th century. Broadway Kölsch has the well-rounded body of ale, its great pilsner and Munich malt characteristics are well balanced by the subtle flavors of Hallertau hops. PROST!

Brocktoberfest

Our interpretation of the festival lagers served during Oktoberfest in Munich. These beers have become drier over the years with less caramel character, but our version retains the malt complexity for which the style is known. Broederlijke Liefde

Broederlijke Liefde (Brotherly Love) is a slightly higher gravity interpretation of the saison style. It is fermented with two yeasts – a classic saison yeast as well as brettanomyces from an original gravity of 1066 (16.5 plato). These yeasts yield a dry and slightly spicy ale with a strong hint of farmhouse character that will continue to develop with age. The use of Target and Styrian Golding hops at 37 IBUs add floral aromatics and a balancing bitterness.

Broken Halo IPA

Broken Halo IPA is a beer produced in the spirit of traditional IPA products shipped from the UK to India in the late 1800s. The almost excessive amounts of Cascade and Columbus hops used in Broken Halo give it notable citrus and grapefruit aromas and flavors. The beer bitterness measures high but tastes smooth due to the full-bodied, Caramel malt sweetness. The finish is juicy, clean, and short lived. A devilishly bold, heavenly smooth India Pale Ale.
