In its infancy the Imperial IPA was nothing more than a heftier version of the standard India Pale Ale. The British found that in sending beer to their troops stationed in India they needed to add more hops to act as a preservative. In doing so the added bitterness created a newly sought after flavor profile inevitably leading to the birth of the Imperial IPA. Laila’s Midnight takes the experiment a step further by adding a dash of nutty Midnight malt and a few other inspired hints of roasted malt flavor to produce a well-balanced and mystically vibrant dark IPA.

Bourbon barrel aged Russian Imperial Stout.

A “sessionable” Pilsner with a large portion of malted wheat for a smooth mouth feel and easy drinkability. Generously hopped late in the kettle with a blend of German hops for a pleasantly hoppy flavor and aroma.

A well-rounded amber beer with strong caramel flavors with complimented with subtle spice notes from the rye malt and perle hops. A bit of citrus from Galena hops pull it all together into a great beer for the fall.

A sweet, malty Imperial Stout with notes of vanilla and chocolate. Finishes with a mellow bourbon character. Great with dessert…or as dessert.

An intense, complex, huge beer. Massive malt wonderfully balanced with bittersweet hoppiness, earthy aroma, chewy palate…a lot going on here that will make you contemplate the cosmos and beyond. Limited release.

After nine month age in Koval oak whiskey barrel, Kosmonaut Russian Imperial Stout is born! Kome komrade, drink in chokolate, fig, koffee and karmel characteristik, also hint of thing we do not have in Russia- long, yellow fruit and round tropical fruit, look like fuzzy bowling ball (banana and coconut). Named for out-of-world dog of David, you enjoy, yes?

Silvius Brabo is a hero in Belgian folklore, a Roman soldier who killed a giant called Druon Antigoon. Old Antigoon (another good name for a beer...or a band) asked peeps who wanted to pass the bridge over the river Scheldt for money. When they didn’t or couldn’t pay up, he cut off their hands and threw them into the river. A pissed off Brabo slayed him, cut off the hand of the giant, spit on it (I made that up) and threw it into the river. Fittingly analogous to Lake Bluff Brewing Company (Silvius) battling megabreweries (’Goon the Giant) all so you can cross a bridge...or something... Anywho, come to Lake Bluff Brewing for a pint of our latest great offering, Silvius Brabo Belgian Blonde Ale or we’ll cut off your hand and throw it in a river. Cheers, Rodd and Dave Silviuis Brabo Belgian Blonde Ale ABV: 7.25%, IBU: 24, SRM: 6 A slightly sweet start that finishes dry, with mild spice notes from the Belgian yeast. Light colored and minimally hopped, it’s refreshing and surprisingly easy drinking for a 7.25% beer.

Refreshing springtime IPA, piney, grassy resin hop aromas and flavors compliment a medium sweet, lightly caramel body that finishes crisp and dry. Originally intended to be a Belgian IPA, the yeast strain threw us a curveball during fermentation, so we tweaked it by pitching our house strain and Uncle Charlie IPA was born! The wonderful grain and hop flavors shine through and the Citra dry hop gives it a thirst-quenching fruity/citrusy boost.

A larger-than-life Wee Heavy with a malty nose and finish. Medium bodied, smooth flavor, light carbonation. Modeled after McEwan’s Scotch Ale, Rodd’s favorite beer that is no longer available in the States. Offered in winter.

This straw-colored summer seasonal is a perfect tribute to the south Texas weather as it is cold and refreshing on a hot day. Its well balanced body presents a malt forward profile followed by a floral hop finish.

A Pale-Cream hybrid with surprising citra hop flavor, medium in body, medium hop bitterness and aroma. A tasty standby for all kinds of people.

The weather channel describes Lake Effect snow as a “mass of sufficiently cold air moving over a body of water creating an unstable temperature profile in the atmosphere.” Who cares. This beer, however, has nothing to do with that drivel. It was inspired by a summer spent drinking heaps of IPAs on a stoop on Elmwood Ave. in Buffalo, NY.
