Bock beer is a broad stylistic category describing a wide range of malty, lightly-hopped German lager beers, ranging in color from light straw to dark brown, from medium to full body. Maibocks, typically released in the springtime, tend to be light in color and medium to full-bodied bodied and usually feature German “noble” hop varieties. As is the case with other traditional styles, American brewers have taken some creative liberties with bock beers, often with outstanding results. We brew our Maibock to be hugely malty & subtly finished with a variety of continental hops, with an eye-pleasing russet brown color. Prosit!

Traditionally released in the spring, the lightest in color, and the most recent addition to the Bock beers of Germany (mid 19th century.) This lager brewed with European malt, while pale, is still strong in alcohol and hoppier than the bock or doppelbock styles.

A modernized version of this spring classic. Fermented with a hybrid yeast and dry-hopped with the new German hop varieties. This beer is loaded with fruity and deep herbal flavors.

She’s a fair Maiden, but a heartbreaker. She wraps us in her deep golden glow, teasing us with crisp citrus scents, whispering secrets of fragrant hops from faraway lands. So we draw her to our lips. And just like that, she’s gone. Ah, well. One Maiden calls for another.

American Sour aged in Cabernet Barrels

A salute to the playful side of summer, we had fun with this beer! Maiden the Shade has a big robust hop character from the liberal use of 7 different varieties of hops. It’s completed with a light colored malt backbone to stay in balance. Kick back and enjoy! This beer has been dubbed a summer IPA. Big powerful combinations of many different kinds of hops give a big hop profile. We added flaked barley to the beer to make for the smooth body and lighter summer-style IPA. Another Ninkasi cult favorite!

Maierfest is dark gold in color with a solid off-white foam stand. It has a rich German malt aroma and a very distinct and complex maltness with a dry finish. This German Style comes from the use of Oktoberfest 2633 Yeast which is a blend of lager strains designed to produce a rich, malty, complex and full bodied beer that attenuates well while leaving plenty of malt character and mouth feel.

Maillard’s Odyssey is a robust dark ale layered with complex malt flavors of toffee, caramel, chocolate, coffee, and dark fruit. This malt-focused concept spawned a daunting grain bill featuring 10 different grains including pale malt, Munich, chocolate malt, oats, dark wheat and roasted barley for a rich, semi-sweet and intense experience.

We know what you’re thinking. You think we’ve lost our minds. “Main Engine Start”? That’s okay – no worries – but actually we haven’t lost anything at all. We just gained a new brewery here in Brooklyn. A few months ago, we busted through the brewhouse wall into another building and expanded our fermentation cellars.Now we’ve just finished installing a big shiny new set of German brewhouse equipment. Over the coming years, we’re going to brew you a lot of fun new beers on this baby. First, though, it’s time to rev this whole thing up and get it humming. The first beer out of our new brewhouse is Brooklyn Main Engine Start, a burnishedgold ale in the rare “Abbey Singel” style, reminiscent of the un-filtered beers that Trappist monks make for themselves. It’s dry and biscuity on the palate, with a lilt of spicy Belgian yeast character and a snappy hop bite. Judicious dry hopping with Slovenian Aurora hops lends an appetizing herbal note. It’s tasty enough to stick with for the whole evening, and at about 6% ABV, it won’t have you tripping over snow banks after just one. We know it’s winter and you might have been expecting something heavy and dark, but right now we’re just not in a heavy and dark mood. In fact, we’re feeling pretty cheerful, and we want to celebrate with a bunch of our friends and a few pints of beer. If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by during our tour hours and see the new brewery. If you’ve seen the brewery before, you’ll be amazed what we’ve done with the place. It’s cold outside – stay a while. We’re going for Main Engine Start.

This incredibly balanced Amber Ale gets its name from Route 50, affectionately known as America’s Main Street. Think toasty malts and light, earthy hops, which blend to create this crisp, crushable beer.

This is a Pilsner. Bright, golden and medium bodied. Created with noble hops, the result is a clean, easy drinking beer that finishes crisply. Afterall, The Main Thing Is The Beer.

American hop breeders have led the way in creating unique and interesting aroma varieties. Hop breeders across the globe have followed suit. Beer II in our Hop Program, a session IPA, features some of our favorite aromas varieties from here and abroad- Amarillo, Citra, Simcoe, Hallertau Blanc and Nelson Sauvin.

Berliner Weisse style sour ale aged on Maine wild blueberries and cinnamon sticks With late-season access to some Maine wild blueberries (thanks Boston Organics!), we captured a bit of “The Way Life Should Be” in this rich, full-flavored winter sour. Mainer Weisse has a nose of ripe berry and cinnamon spice, warming hints of the holidays. It sips fruity, tart, and bold, finishing with a sweet and surely-sour bite. It is blue, and it is beautiful.
