Maibock

For centuries, the beer-loving people of Bavaria have served their famous bock beers in the spring, and we are glad to bring this ancient tradition to your local beer hall. In Germany, many of the local bocks are brewed by Catholic monks, and while we at Upland may not have taken our vows, our Maibock delivers an authentic Bavarian taste–a full body with a complex, sweet malt character, balanced by a sturdy German hop profile that creates a crisp, dry finish.

Maibock

This type of German beer was originally made as a transition between the heavy doppelbock that is enjoyed during the winter season and the lighter beer that is favored during the summertime. The Maibock is specifically associated with the springtime and the month of May, hense the name “Mai”bock. This dark gold beer gives off a strong malt aroma along with a lightly toasted scent. The German malts used in this beer dominate the flavor and we also use one of the finest German noble hops in order to give this beer an authentic and rich flavor.

Maibock 6.5% ABV, 16 IBU’s Silver Award Winner! 2014 World Beer Cup This quaint looking beer is very strong! Consider yourself warned. Yes, this German style bock is golden and bright, not dark. Mai means May and well, Bock means goat, but that’s another story. May means Spring and after a long winter of drinking dark beers, Germans were ready for a bright golden beer to celebrate spring. And that’s where babies come from.

Maibock

Early German monks created “bock” beer as a hearty beverage that would help sustain them during their Lenten fasts. The first bock beers were dark, but soon came “blonder” styles such as maibock. Maibocks have a rich, malty, full flavor. And, since our first brewhouse was from Heimertingen in Bavaria, we’ve honored that heritage by giving the name to our first lager beer.“Bock,” by the way, is German for “male goat.” It doesn’t make sense to us either.

Maibock

The origins of Bock beer can be traced back over 600 years to the town of Einbeck, Germany. The great taste and aroma of fresh malt are the main flavor components of this style, but the hops though still in the background, also play an important role by not allowing the malt to completely dominate the palate. These deep golden colored lager beers were made to replace the darker winter brews and the name Maibock refers to the month of May when these spring-time beers make their debut.
