Cask conditioned; Regular. Previously available bottle conditioned. Quenching, moreish & delicious. “I’m going down the pub for some Neck Oil!” ...Grandad would always holler as he left for his second home, the Pub. A hard workingman, at the end of a day he craved his Neck Oil. This is our homage to his favourite Session Best Bitter. Get it down your Neck! The Neck Oil is now only available in cask and being served at fine real ale establishments. As of mid 2013 the recipe for this beer has changed and, as such, there is a new entry.

Masses of hop additions during the whirlpool and a huge dose of dry hops make this a brilliantly ‘easy’ ipa.

All of the malt in this anniversary beer comes from Weyermann Malting, a family-owned operation in Bamberg, Germany, which is the center of Rauchbier (smoked beers) in Germany. The inspiration came from a trip that head brewer Todd Haug took to Bamberg to visit the Weyermann facility. NEIN draws from the traditional banana and clove notes of hefeweizen yeasts and layers on deeper toned malt flavors, a distinctly smoky character from oak-smoked wheat malt and charred “honeycombs” of white oak. Erica Williams, our 2014 Featured Artist, who also designed the artwork for Darkness 2014 and SurlyFest 2014, designed the artwork for NEIN. Her three-headed, three-eyed lion represents Surly’s 9th anniversary.

This India Pale Ale features a new experimental hop from New Zealand called Nelson Sauvin. The creator, Nelson, was reminded of New Zealand’s famed Sauvignon Blanc grapes. This boutique hop features a brilliant bouquet of aromatics that is very unique. Our beer is bursting with juicy fruits like passion fruit, guava and pear. There are bright grassy notes and an undeniable exotic aroma reminiscent of gooseberries and elderflowers (smell a bottle of St. Germain liqueur). The aromas transcend onto the palate along with sweet pale malts. The beer has a yellowish hay color with good clarity and a nearly white head. It finishes with a sharp bitterness that contrasts the initially sweet fruit flavors.
