Rock Dodger

Rock Dodger is our salute to the many beer-loving bicyclists across Iowa, especially those who regularly traverse the 75-yard gravel path from Gray’s Lake bike trail to Confluence Brewery for a pint. We started with American two-row barley malt, Belgian pilsner malt and just a touch of specialty caramel malt. Then we added a blend of hops — including Citra (the star of our popular South Side Citra Ale), Crystal and Simcoe. The result is a beer in which the sweet malt is balanced by moderate bitterness and infused with tropical and citrus fruit flavor and aroma. For a big ABV double IPA that’s as smooth as a freshly paved bike path, try Rock Dodger.

Rock-N-Dirt Milk Stout

We love Mammoth Rock-N-Dirt so of course we wanted to make a collaboration beer with them to express our deepest feelings and gratitude. You may ask how a heavy equipment and excavation company can collaborate on a beer, well all we can tell you is that it’s got real dirt in it and that’s how you can tell it’s authentic (*does not actually contain dirt, we just think that sounds good). The combination of 2-Row Pale, Carapils, Chocolate and Crystal 75 malts creates the perfect backbone for the conservative Columbus/Tomahawk/Zeus and Mt. Hood hop profile. Brewed with English Ale yeast as opposed to our standard California Ale yeast, this brew has a smooth, slightly sweet finish.

Rocket Science Californian

Rocket Science Californian is our take on the California Common beers that came out of the Gold Rush era on the West Coast in the late 1800’s. In its original form it is an Amber Ale beer in style, somewhat similar to an Extra Special Bitter (ESB), but is brewed using a special Lager yeast at the high ferment temperatures normally used for Ale’s. Our version sees the same technique used, but a lighter grain bill and a heavier late hop regime to add more punchy, summery citrus notes. Moderate bitterness is balanced by attractive lemon, lime and grapefruit flavours which linger in a refreshing fashion, making this a particularly sessionable drop.

Rocket Science Galactic Ale

Rocket Science Galactic Ale was the first brew for Dennis Beer Co. This approachable 4.6% ABV craft beer is an interpretation of an American Pale Ale (APA) with its assertive hopping, but also delivering notes of a German Altbier with the copper colour, and distinctive caramelised maltiness. Elements of an English Bitter are also introduced largely from the use of darker specialty malts. The term ‘Galactic’ in the name derives from the use of Galaxy hops, which along with Nelson Sauvin hops drive the nose and bitterness profile. The end result is the extra body that balances out the firm hopping regime, supported by pungent aromas of passionfruit, citrus and pine resin, that are prominent throughout.

Rocket Science Mad Hatter

Rocket Science Mad Hatter is an American Style IPA with a twist. In the glass it displays a bright golden colour with slight hues of green. Aromas are reminiscent of childhood bubble gum and sweet citrus and pear. Crystal malts add texture and mouth feel to the mid palate, for a while masking the underlying bitterness, which then rears its head late in the piece. Dennis’ secret ingredient is added at two stages in the brewing process and is sure to make the taste buds dance with intrigue.

Rocket Science Red Planet

Rocket Science Red Planet displays the malt driven elements of a traditional Red Ale but with the added kick of an IPA hopping regime. The deep, copper red colour showcases the abundance of specialty malts used in the brew. On the nose there is particular interest as the floral, peachy hop aromas intertwine with the pine, rustic and earthy aromas and underlying malt flavour. In the mouth Red Planet displays a rich malty texture, and flavours of burnt toffee. The finish is lengthy with distinct hop bitterness adding intrigue long after the last mouthful.
