Saison

Tasting notes: Classic Goldings hop aroma, flowery with a hint of orange marmalade followed by a non-banana fruitiness. Flavor starts with hops, followed by a gentle malt sweetness, yeast fruitiness and tartness, with a crisp, clean finish. Bitterness is gentle and not harsh. Balance is neutral. This beer is different from other domestic saisons because it is less hoppy and does not use the Dupont yeast strain or a similar strain. Our Belgian yeast strain produces fruity and spicy notes along with some tartness and is a strong attenuator. Saison is a very diverse style and we wanted a beer that was refreshing but still had a complex flavor profile. Malt, unmalted wheat, hops, and yeast all make a noticeable contribution to this beer. The flaked wheat also gives this beer some body since it has a low finishing gravity. Hops are used in moderate amounts to provide good hop flavor and aroma without overwhelming bitterness or harshness.

Saison

A traditional farmhouse ale that dates back to the origin of agriculture in Southern Belgium, this style was brewed by farmers to nourish their seasonal workers – known as Saisonniers – during the grueling work of the season’s harvest. A fairly strong beer with an ABV of 6.6%, Saison’s were traditionally brewed in the winter strong enough to preserve them for the following year’s harvest but light enough to quench the farmhands’ thirst. Our rendition of this beer will transport you back in time, where you’ll be greeted with an array of distinctly Belgian flavors. Notes of spice, clove and banana wonderfully combine in this beer with a light toastiness from its traditional Belgian Malt, completing with a tart and dry refreshing finish.

Saison

Brewed to the original Saison strength, this is the classic farmhouse beer. Originally brewed by farmers to slake the thirst of seasonal workers (les saisonniers), this refreshing beer had a lower alcohol content that is not often seen in today's modern Saison. Notch returns the Saison to its roots, not only in alcohol content, but by using local ingredients much like the Belgian farmers. The wheat used in Notch Saison is malted by Valley Malt in Hadley Massachusetts.

Saison

“Saison”, French for season, were ales traditionally brewed in the autumn or winter to refresh farm workers during the harvest. Our Saison is spicy with mild citric fruit notes and a crisp finish. An ode to tradition, we salute all who till and toil to bring fruit from the earth. We only brew our Saison once a year in the summer to take advantage of the higher temperatures. Our Saison yeast loves to ferment when it’s warm out resulting in a slightly hazy golden colored beer with wonderful peppery notes and a crisp dry finish.

Saison

Mystic Saison is our take on the old Belgian farmhouse ale. Saisons were traditionally brewed for refreshment during the summer months. Light in color, effervescent with a billowy, well-retained head — it is very dry and strongly aromatic with light pepper and pear overtones. Heavier in alcohol at 7% abv, it finishes clean and bright, with a very light bitterness.

Saison

French in origin, saison’s were normally light, quaffable beers brewed with grains on hand to be given to the farm hands in spring and summer during planting and harvest. Our saison takes that idea and gives it a little twist. We use pink peppercorns and a mountain of late addition hops to add a spicy, fruity, citrus aroma and flavor. Add in the four types of malt and the French yeast and you have a beer with intricate flavors and aromas all the way through. Do some yard work and pretend you are a Belgian-French farmer enjoying the fruits of your labor brought forth in this remarkable, refreshing brew.
