Completely dairy-free, this stout blends ten different specialty malts to yield a remarkable depth of flavor. With only a touch of burnt notes, Special Double Cream Stout focuses on the softer, cocoa & espresso-like aspects of roasted malt.

This beer was named for an old curmudgeon of a customer who, for years frequented our brew pub. He was an interesting and erudite old guy who appreciated hoppy beers and Irish whiskey. We brewed this malty ale employing the unique Northern Brewer hop, which gives this beer a tart acidity without an overpowering aroma. The S.O.B. will satisfy the hop lover with its unusual balance of hoppiness and dry finish.

This special edition is a full bodied and distinctive strong beer developed within the abbey to celebrate and honour the 150th anniversary of the brewery. Produced with 100% natural ingredients,its pale golden robe and champagne sparkle is topped by a rich white head of foam. The distinctive bouquet evokes the rich fruity and complex notes of the Chimay yeast in harmony with a delicate spicy note and the fragrance of fresh noble hops. At 10% alcohol, the flavour is full bodied and complex with a slight but refreshing tang note and a crisp hop finish that will delight the palate.

India Pale Ale was originally brewed stronger and “hoppier” to survive the long journey to the British Colonies. Our unique version of this world class beer style offers a deep amber color and malt flavor. Our interpretation is produced with fresh whole leaf hop flowers from Pacific Northwest America.
