We are extremely honored to present to you our 13th Anniversary barrel aged blend! This is our fourth barrel aged release and each year is another adventure into the flavor unknown. Our oak aging cellar continues to grow and so do the blending possibilities. We peaked at just over 120 barrels in our program this year, yet only 53 barrels made this year’s final blend. We have stayed true to our original goal of making straight ahead strong ales and letting them rest in wood barrels to mature and develop flavors slowly and naturally. We again met with some of the area’s best wine makers and allowed them to guide us to the finished product. Most of the beers that are in this blend are old friends who we know well. Dark and ominous Parabola along with the rich and complex Bravo Brown were brewed again this year and together became the center piece of this blend. Other beers like the Rufus and Opal along with Sean Paxton’s Saucerful of Secrets are still tucked away in the cellar in their original first generation form, gaining character with extended aging. Velvet Merkin has established itself as a real barrel loving beer, although it is only 6%, it carries barrel qualities beautifully. A new beer, that was created this year by our Cellar Master Ali Razi, is Double Double Barrel Ale and it found its way into this blend as well. In the end, this year brought us seven wine makers and seven beers to counter balance our lucky thirteenth year of brewing beer on the Central Coast. The brewery is alive and well and oak is as much a part of our program today as it was back in 1996!

Woody Guthrie was a legendary folksinger, American patriot, and an Oklahoma original. This Machine IPA is a tribute to Woody Guthrie and his iconic guitar with the slogan “This Machine Kills Fascists”. With this simple yet powerful message, Woody used the best weapons he had, his words and his guitar to help fight the ultimate war between good and evil. This Machine IPA was brewed to further this spirit. Armed with Nelson Sauvin, Citra, and Amarillo hops as well as a fruit forward, estery and slightly phenolic yeast strain, This Machine IPA packs an aromatic explosion of flavor that stands up to the masses in support of craft brewers everywhere who are fighting for the freedom of taste! Join us raising a toast to Woody and his message that rings true today.

Our small batch seasonal series of farmstyle ciders, wines and meads fuse old world oak aging methods with new world flavors and techniques. Farmstyle blends are crafted from locally sourced ingredients and bottled in the traditional style with minimal filtration for pureness of character.

This dark beer pays homage to Des Moines’ history as a late 19th century coal town. Confluence Brewery is located on Thomas Beck Road, which is named after an English immigrant who developed extensive (but now long abandoned) coal mine holdings in Des Moines, including some near our brewery. The dark color comes from black wheat, which is combined with two-row base malt and a good portion of caramel malt and some flaked rye to add a subtle dry, spiciness. Don’t let the color fool you, this dark beer is not roasty or stout-like. We used a special blend of hops, including Nelson Sauvin from Australia, to give it a unique flavor and aroma profile completely distinct from its India Pale Ale cousin, Des Moines IPA.

ALL ALES ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL This powerful and complex golden ale pays homage to Founding Father and fellow brewer, Thomas Jefferson. Yards Brewmaster, Tom Kehoe, worked closely with Philadelphia’s historic City Tavern to recreate this recipe, employing honey, rye, and wheat, just like the beer Jefferson made at Monticello.

Imagine Sitting at the bar in an English pub sharing stories with the locals over a fresh pint of ale. This copper colored brew is meant to take you there. The earthy aroma and bitterness of the Kent Goldings hops provides balance to the caramel and toffee flavors of the traditional English malts rather than dominating the flavor profile like many American style ales. Enjoy a pour alongside our fish and chips for a traditional English experience

Classic German style pilsener

The assertive hop bitterness of this Belgian IPA is balanced by a clear malty backbone. It finishes with the flowery, citrus flavor of West Coast hops. Its deceptive 8% abv is achieved through a special Belgian fermentation process.

Matured for almost one year, mahogany in color, this award-winning barley wine is crafted from fine barley malt exuding deep, rich notes of dried fruit, plum and candy with a walnut ester.

Aromas are a great combination of bananas, bubblegum and cloves with a slight hint of liquorice. Full bodied and chewy with a warming smooth finish.

If you are a hop lover who is looking for a pale ale with real flavor and character, look no further: Thornton Creek Pale Ale is your pint of choice.

What more to say? The finest Maris Otter malt with an exquisite hop character makes a wonderful accompaniment to excellent food – oysters, apparently!

Deep amber in color with a dense rich foamy head. The flavor is dominated by toasted malts with hints of caramel and very well balanced with English hops.

Threadspinner, the eighth release in our limited Legendary Series, is the first in a mini-series of three unique, wood-aged beers, inspired by the deities known as the 3 Fates. The Moirai sisters determined the lives and destinies of all, controlling the fates of both gods and mortals alike. The first sister, Clotho, spun the thread of life with her divine spindle, deciding one’s birth and death. Hence this robust, lively American Barleywine to kick off the series, aged in freshly-emptied bourbon barrels from our friends at Witherspoon Distillery. With the subsequent two releases coming next year, the idea is to collect all three for a vertical, showcasing the beautiful characteristics each beer possesses.
