Thundercone Fresh Hop Ale

Autumn is arriving and, with it, McMenamins Fall Seasonal, Thundercone Fresh Hop Ale. To celebrate the hop harvest in the Pacific Northwest, McMenamins brewers have created a seasonal utilizing fresh, undried hops straight from the fields. Throwing caution to the wind, 30 pounds of fresh Cascade hops are frantically delivered to over 22 McMenamins Breweries all over Washington and Oregon. Each and every batch of Thundercone is brewed within hours of the hops being picked off of the vine. This is a daunting task but one that our brewers feel is well worth the monumental coordination involved. The resulting beer is a feast for the senses, and an absolute fresh hop showcase. Pilsner Malt is used as the base malt for this beer to impart a smooth foundation and Belgian Caramel Malt is thrown in for a little color and a slight maltiness. Dried Centennial hops are used for bittering and some flavoring purposes. But the real stars of the show are the fresh Cascade hop cones used for both flavoring and aroma. 30 total pounds of fresh Cascades are added in three different additions in every batch. These fresh Cascades overwhelm Thundercone with an earthy, raw, hop-decadence that can only come from fresh hops. It is a greener and more unadulterated flavor and aroma than comes from dried hops. The citrusy, flowery and grapefruit notes usually associated with Cascade hops are still present but with an amazing fresh hop funkiness added into the mix. This beer is so refreshing and hop-filled that you may think you are dreaming but, like Shakespeare’s play, Thundercone Fresh Hop Ale is in reality a short lived dream come true

Thurston

Germany has always brewed; and before their lagers forever changed the way the world looked at beer, the German city of Dortmund was known for a strong, dark ale known as Adambier, the progenitor beer. Brewed with copious amounts of dark malt and fermented at low temperatures for months, or even years. Adambier is a style that has been unjustly forgotten, and it has been a pleasure to reconstruct this historical beer. Ours is a deep, tawny color that’s boozy, with hints of vanilla. Gentle whisps of ripe plums and caramel meld with the deep undertones of chocolate and tobacco, with lush aromas of sherry and honey.

Thy Bock

Thyme After Thyme

"If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting, time after time." Yes, I have to be honest, this 80's hit by Cyndi Lauper was part of the inspiration in making this beer. THYME AFTER THYME is our version of a Strong Belgian Winter Ale. Initial tasting leads to a zesty orange rind and herbal aroma. Mouthfeel has weight and comes across with a white grape and subtle, herbal character that coats the tongue and lingers with a glimpse of Thyme. Mild warmth on the tail end of the finish gives a small view into its lofty 9% abv. Both Orange peel and Thyme were added during the primary fermentation so as the beer developed the spices were slowly stripped away leading to a well balanced spiced ale that is a great companion for a comfy couch and a roaring fire.

Tiarna

Tiarna is a blend of two beers, one aged in oak and fermented with 100% brettanomyces and the other fermented in stainless with a blend of two belgian yeast strains. Both beers were brewed with a combination of 2 row and wheat malt in addition to specialty grains. It was hopped with Hallertau, Styrian Goldings and Cascade hops. The finished beer is dark golden in color with citrus, pineapple and bread in the aroma. The flavor of this tart beer has notes of grapefruit, lemon, and bread crust, and a long, dry finish.
