A traditional wheat-based ale originating in Southern Germany that is a specialty for summer consumption, but generally produced year-round. Refreshing, fast-maturing beers that are lightly hopped and show a unique banana-and-clove yeast character. Rod ‘discovered’ this, his favorite, style while stationed in “West” Germany from 1985-1988. Enchanted by the light banana and clove combination as well as the traditional slice of fruit added to the glass he still enjoys and brews it today to the strictest German standards, always in search of the perfect pint.
Malts: By German law, at least 50% of the grist must be malted wheat, although some versions use up to 70%; the remainder is Pilsner malt. We use a 50:50 blend of German Pilsner and German White Wheat malt.
