The name, like Yoyodyne, is a nod to author, recluse, and American genius Thomas Pynchon. The beer? It’s an Imperial Hefeweizen, brewed to twice the normal strength and extensively dry-hopped. Some would say this hefty citrus bomb is eccentric. We would say it’s hopped out of its fuckin’ mind, nothing personal. That said, for clocking in at 9.0% ABV, it’s a remarkably smooth-drinking enterprise.

The kiwi fruit is a very odd thing indeed. It’s sweet, tart, playful....but also brown, furry, and supernatural green on the inside. Frankly, the kiwi is altogether weird, but it’s also pretty delicious. Did we go there? We sure did, by peeling an entire pallet-full of ripe fresh kiwi fruit and adding it to a finely tuned sour beer in red wine barrels for a few months. We blended this with another beer that's spent over a year in barrels to add extra complexity, and then re-fermented it all in the bottle. The result is Kiwi's Playhouse, a strong, playful beer with a distinctly tart edge. Kiwi’s Playhouse sports a bright palate that's dry, full of tropical fruit and more delicious than eye-watering. It's great with everything you want to eat this summer - barbecue, fish tacos, seafood, salads, goat cheeses. Forget the rosé and get yourself into Kiwi's Playhouse. Our award winning coffee-infused Imperial Stout is on the prowl. The coffee in this brew comes from local coffee roasters in the hometowns of our two locations, Rockbridge County and Nelson County, Va. The fresh roasted coffee is infused and mellowed in our Imperial Stout for an almost dessert-like effect. The mocha of the big beers and big bears! Coffee, Mocha, Roast. When you blaze a trail up a mountain, your goal is to reach the peak. We did the same with the Peak Series, our brewer’s selections that combine intensity, adventurous flavors and special brewing techniques to reach the pinnacle of the brewers’ art.

Two-row barley and a mellow hint of wheat complement the subtle flavoring of German Hallertau hops. Not Your Average Blonde Ale is an easy-drinking beer that is visually appealing and has no particularly dominating malt or hop characteristics.

Our first small-batch canned release of 2017 is hot off the press and looks an absolute picture thanks to the amazing custom can artwork from the incredible guys at The Red Dress. We wanted to produce something of true decadence, so have packed into the recipe everything that we could think of to raise the body and make a smooth, truly redolent deep stout. The four key additions exaggerate the mouthfeel and work with the blend of malts, oats and wheat to leave you with a beer that is best enjoyed on those dark, early-spring evenings when the weather is yet to break and the cold still seeps in around the door jambs. The result? In a word, opulence. The aromas start with cocoa and vanilla but it is the flavour that really holds the key to our latest small-batch release. Chocolate milkshake, roasty espresso and mellow vanilla blend into one in a smooth, full-bodied beer that is rich, deep and rewarding.

Single Hop N.E. Style IPA

West Coast style pale ale with a thirst quenching hop flavor that is easy drinking and has a crisp finish. Hop flavors of blueberry, papaya, and rose blossom enhance the honeydew and strawberry aroma. Straw in color with medium-high bitterness.

This hearty, mahogany colored ale is brewed to evoke the dark, full-bodied ales that were a favorite of dockworkers and warehousemen (hence the name “Porter”) in 19th century London. This is a smooth and very drinkable beer, characterized by its well-balanced malt and hops, plus subtle notes of chocolate.

A roasted, dark cocoa malty start achieved by using chocolate malt and chocolate wheat that has an IPA side-kick resulting in a hoppy finish.

Azacca is the ancient Haitian Voodoo god of agriculture. It’s said that he was a simple, barefooted hillbilly that watched over the farmers and their crops. The hops variety that bares his name is a dwarf hop that has intense tropical flavor and aroma with notes of citrus, ripe mangos, orchard fruit (pears & apples) and pine needles. Azacca Attacka is a single-hop American Pale Ale. Very sessionable at only 5% ABV, it has a mild malt backbone that lets the Azacca hops shine through. Slight bitterness up front gives way to the prominent tropical mango flavor with hints of pear and it finishes with a lingering pine needle bitterness.

Bourbon Black Cherry Porter is Short’s Black Cherry Porter aged in bourbon barrels for 9 months. This Porter is brewed with sweet black cherry puree and eight different malts.

Our recipe for Forcefield has changed a lot from batch to batch. This year’s (black and white striped can) is similar to last year’s — a single IPA focused around Azacca and Columbus. But this time we used cryo hops, for a megadose of lupulin oils! The result is an intensely hoppy and clean beer with unique notes of fresh chlorophyll, strawberry, sherbet, and big hop resin. Very “green.” Drinkability through the roof.
