Okay - we're going to say it: beer isn't always about the hops. Ales like our Amber are more about getting a sweet, roasty and malty taste. This is London-style brew is no exception. Dark with a caramel aroma, the Alley Kat Amber focuses on the subtle tastes in every sip.

Boasting two gold medals, our hoppier, more malty American take on the English Extra Special Bitter—ESB—pleases even the most discerning beer connoisseurs and particularly those who like a big, bold beer. Lightning Founder and head brewer Dr. James Crute has brewed this beer with devotion for over 25 years. When the wind drives you indoors on a cold night, raise a pint with friends and enjoy its balance and drinkability. You’ll marvel at the tall cream-colored head topping off this dark amber beer. With a higher ABV than its British cousin, our Amber Ale is a true “sipping session” ale.

Reddish amber in color, our amber has a malty aroma and a caramel and toffee malt flavor. Citrusy American hops balance out the malt flavor, keeping it from being too sweet and adding a moderate amount of bitterness. Amber Ale is a Seasonal and contains 5.1% ABV.

Hoppier than our two lighter beers and with more body than our others. Amber in color, with bready notes. We have it on tap and on cask. The cask is on an English beer engine where the beer is pumped into the glass as opposed to being forced into the glass via a CO2 tank. Often served at a slightly warmer temperature, this beer offers a less filtered and fresher taste.
