Barrel-Aged Blind Date Ale

This is the old tried and true Blind Date Ale of old. It is based on an English Olde Ale but has an addition of 300 pounds of Arizona grown Medjool dates. The dates contribute a complexity and sweetness that the malt alone cannot. This Blind Date has been aged for three months in Jim Beam oak bourbon barrels. The oak and bourbon lend flavors of vanilla, wood, and of course, bourbon. These flavors layered with the dates created a big, multi-leveled ale. The alcohol content is about 7.5% alc/vol. You'll have to get to Four Peaks quick since we only have a few kegs of this unique beer.

Barrel-Aged Coal Train

This massive wallop of a Baltic Porter is brewed with a lot of hard work, and a 14-hour triple-decoction rest! Now that's not something you see every day! And then... we aged it in whiskey barrels! Like the long coal trains of Nebraska, this brew takes a long while to put together and a long time to enjoy. The double sense of the name (Coltrane) reminds us of the jazz artist’s four-disk collaboration with Miles Davis in 1956, the titles of which describe the decoction method used in brewing this elegant beer: “Cookin’, Relaxin’, Workin’, Steamin’.” Coal Train is a beer to be savored – like fine jazz.

Barrel-Aged Gonzo

Hunter S. Thompson once said, "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Consider this our professional version of Gonzo Imperial Porter. Aged and seasoned for three months in wood barrels from our neighbors at Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey, this ale has a well-balanced taste and abundance of character. The taste will remind you of sweet chocolate, dry oak, and smooth whiskey with a memorable, velvety mouthfeel.

Barrel-Aged Head High

There are always exceptions to certain rules and this beer is the case. Head High should always be consumed fresh…except for when its going to be aged in a bourbon barrel. The four to six month period this beer spends in a barrel softens and rounds out some of the bitterness you get from this beer fresh. The citrus and grapefruit aroma from the dry hopping fades and is replaced with more subtle notes of pine and vanilla. Earthy and woody flavors from the barrel are easily picked up by the pale malts and oak tannins give this beer a more substantial mouth-feel. ABV: 7.5%

Barrel-Aged HopAnomaly

An artful creation which began with our Hop God Belgian-Style IPA, enhanced by a 6 month maturation in French Oak Chardonnay Barrels. This version of Hop God is a fascinating, big, bold Belgian-style Tripel hopped in very high amounts to concentrate citrus, grapefruit and floral aromatics in the nose. The addition of Chardonnay barrel aging adds further dimension and oak tannins to an already wonderfully complex Ale - bringing to mind tropical fruits and peach. We know of nothing that compares - enjoy! Formerly Known as Barrel Aged HopGod

The depth, intensity, and complexity of the flavor profile of this special release, like its predecessors, make it a worthy tribute to Old Rasputin. Prior to 2010, Barrel-Aged Old Rasputin was released in such limited quantities that it was available only at the North Coast Brewing retail shop in Fort Bragg, California. However, we received so many requests for this beer that we began producing enough Barrel-Aged Old Rasputin to put into broader, but still limited, distribution.

Barrel-Aged Overhead

The characteristics of Overhead that under normal circumstances help to differentiate it from Head High – more residual sweetness, wider range of malt flavor, and a shift to the piney, resiny end of the hop spectrum – also make it an interesting candidate for barrel aging. Time softens the high IBU punch of fresh Overhead, and caramel sweetness from the bourbon adds a new layer to its malt backbone. Piney hop aromas, made more subtle during the aging process, are reshaped by the underlying notes of earthy oak and hints of vanilla.

Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout

Our Russian Imperial Stout has a very complex malt character showing layers of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt and finishes with an assertive bitterness from both dark malts and hops. For this batch, after fermentation was complete, we put the beer in a combination of Whiskey and Rum barrels. This aging process allows the beer to mellow a bit while adding layers of toasted coconut, vanilla, damp earthiness, and slight boozy character from the whiskey and rum still soaked into the wood of the barrels. This is a beer to sip and savor!

Barrel-Aged Vanilla Bean Wreck Alley

When the first barrel-aged version of Wreck Alley Imperial Stout made its debut, we dropped hints about a mysterious “Batch #2.” Lucky for you, the wait is over. Like previous versions of Wreck Alley, this batch has additions of cocoa nibs and locally roasted Ethiopian coffee beans. But this time we didn’t stop there. Our brewers split whole vanilla beans from Papua New Guinea, added them to the beer, and left it to age in American oak barrels for an entire year. The result? All of the dark chocolate and espresso-like roast you expect from Wreck Alley, plus exotic vanilla undertones. This bad boy is strong, refined, and damn tasty.
