This sweet black currant mead is named after one boisterous Scottish wench. Black currants have been grown in the British Isles for more than five hundred years, and used by herbalists since the Middle Ages.

Dark as night but most similar in body to the Blonde Ale, this beer brings a slightly smoky yet sweet flavor with balanced hop additions that is sure to surprise and please all patrons

A black ale hopped with first Gold, U.S. Goldings and East Kent Goldings. Dave Warwick and Tim Matthews became friends in Pittsburgh, PA in 2006 when they were both assistant brewers in crosstown brewpubs. Dave, now Brewmaster for Three Notch’d, and Tim, now Brewmaster for Oskar Blues, created “Black and Goldings” as a nod to the beloved city where their friendship and brewing careers began. Their experiences in Pittsburgh have left their mark on Dave and Tim, and now they’re teaming up to leave their own Mark with this delicious collaboration brew.

Black and Tan is a mixture of our pale ale and stout. The result is a dark beer that is not very heavy, not bitter but has a pleasant hop character. Black and tan will appeal to people who are looking for a dark beer that is not heavy nor bitter. The alcohol content by volume is 6.2 percent.

Our Belgian Royal Stout, brewed with two yeasts. One German Ale Yeast, and a Belgian strong ale yeast. Dark, rich and sublime.

This light flavored black lager is our version of a classic schwarzbier. This schwarzbier has moderate malt flavors that finish clean and sweet, and are balanced out nicely with just a hint of bitterness. The appearance is very dark brown, with a tan-colored head. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium to medium-high carbonation. Black Bear is truly a beer that will surprise the drinker. It is overall dark, but very pleasantly sweet with no harshness that most would expect from a dark beer. This beer is available seasonally, so try it when you can.

Bold and aggressive best describe the Virginia Black Bear. Ten Specialty Grains comprise the backbone of the beer and high alpha American hops give the bear her teeth. Notes of dark chocolate and coffee abound. Used as the base beer for the Enlightened Despot, the Virginia Black Bear has escaped to wander where she wants. Beware the bear.

This German Schwarzbier, or black lager, features real vanilla bean. It's made with all-German Perle hops for a distinctive, chocolate taste. Available November - December

Our most full-bodied, robust and black as night beer. One sip, and your visiting the rocky coast of Dublin, probably singing some raucous Pub song. Heavy accents of chocolate and black patent barley.

Black Beauty is a big Belgian Dubbel - but brewed with rye. It is velvety smooth, chocolatey, has undertones of toffee and rum, and finishes with a dry, spiciness from the rye. The yeast comes directly from an old Trappist monastery in Belgium and imparts a wonderfully complex character to the beer. I made Chef Dave make me our own traditional dark Belgian candi sugar to add to the complexity. This beer was inspired by the music of Miles Davis. I actually placed speakers right by the fermentation tank and "serenaded" the yeast with Miles' music while it fermented the beer. Outta sight, man!

Black Belle™ is a collaborative effort between Blackstone Brewing Company® and Nelson’s Green Brier™ Distillery; makers of Belle Meade Bourbon™. Black Belle™ is an Imperial Stout that we infused with cocao nibs and then aged in bourbon barrels for over 7 months. This beer is smooth and sweet with definite notes of bourbon, oak and dark chocolate. Blackstone Brewing Company® is locally owned and is the oldest operating brewery in Nashville. Stephanie Weins and Kent Taylor opened Blackstone in 1994 as a brewpub. In 2011 they expanded their brewing operations with the building of a “state of the art” brewing and bottling facility. Nelson’s Green Brier™ Distillery is locally owned and operated by Andy and Charlie Nelson. The brothers have revived their great-great-great grandfather's Nashville based distillery business which once had national and international distribution from the 1870s through 1909. Black as night and every bit Imperial, this RIS was originally launched to tremendous accolades. Going further, this Stranahan’s Whiskey barrel aged version meshes the rich chocolates, the coffee-like aromatics with the sweet whiskey nose and drying character of the oak. Slightly behind on the palette are the hops – held in restraint by the wonderfully full mouthfeel and broad flavors brought on by the perfect blend of so many malted barley varieties. Ready to enjoy upon release and perfect for extended cellaring.

This almost black lager originates from Germany and is most closely associated with Porter. The difference being the long maturation period (or lagering time) required to produce a true Schwartzbier. The flavor is reminiscent of treacle, coffee and toasted malt. It is not and should not be perceived as burnt or ashy like some stouts. Black Betty has 5% alc/vol and a smooth character that marks most lager beers. The name, of course, comes from the Huddy Ledbetter song from the 1940�s which was made popular by the band Ram Jam and later by the Black Crows and U2, among others.
