ESB

The ESB is a smooth and creamy traditional English ale with great malty characteristics and hop aroma; bitterness isn't the defining characteristic of this ale! Belonging to the Pale Ale group of beers, the Extra Special Bitter, or ESB, has a much more complex malt and hop character and a higher ABV than others in the group. We used traditional English pale ale malt combined with a substantial amount of both Fuggle and Goldings hops to make this beer well balanced and easy to drink. One of the favorites of the brewers.

ESB - Early Spring Beer

From the Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. website: Our ESB combines the best of English tradition with West Coast style. A blend of malts featuring British-grown Maris Otter is balanced with the earthy spiciness of hand-selected English and US hops. The ale is left unfiltered, which enhances mouthfeel and hop aroma creating a slightly reddish-copper hue

ESBzar

Rest In Powder BZ! We hand crafted this traditional Extra Special Bitter to honor our fallen friend Larry "BZ" Miller, without whom it would have been very difficult to open our brewery. Utilizing ESB as our base malt (think English style malt similar to Marris Otter) we combined Crystal 15 malt with Golding and Fuggle hops to provide the perfect base for the WLP 002 English Ale Yeast to do it's yeasty magic and create this full bodied, subtly hopped 7% ABV 32 IBU beauty. If big hop forward beers aren't necessarily your thing, the ESBzar may be your new go to fermulation.

Escoffier

Escoffier is our much heralded collaboration with New Belgium Brewing in Ft. Collins, CO. Coinciding with their entry into Michigan in August 2012, this project began with a friendly meeting at our pub. After a few beers and some food, the idea to brew a beer together started to take shape. Surprise! Auguste Escoffier is considered the master chef of the 20th century. His ideas and methods left an indellible imprint on the culinary world, and are still in use to this very day. We named our beer ’Escoffier’ to celebrate the relationship between great food and excellent beer, and how they elevate each other when enjoyed together. If you’ve ever visited our pub, this is the cornerstone of what we try to accomplish. Will we make it again? Only the ghost of old Escoffier knows.

Esmeralda Ale

Esmeralda is a complementary beer to it’s mountainBeer partner Maude’s mild; similar qualities but slightly different vital statistics. It has a similar base to the mild, but it was brewed to a higher alcohol level. Also, instead of dark fruits, we brewed this with some dark sugars allowing notes of molasses and dark sugar to complement the extra alcohol. Esmeralda was fermented with an English yeast adding a smooth fruity flavor on top of the alcohol and molasses tones.
