2012 feiert Duisburg den 500. Geburtstag des wohl berühmtesten Einwohners der Stadt, Gerhard Mercator. Der berühmte Kosmograph wurde 1512 in Rupelmonde bei Antwerpen geboren und lebte und arbeitete 42 Jahre in Duisburg. Für die Feierlichkeiten ließ man in der belgischen Brasserie Grain d´Orge in Hombourg diesen dunklen Doppelbock einbrauen. (source: www.bierzwerg.de)

Flat12 American Wit is quintessentially an American version of a traditional Belgian-style Wit beer. It's a summer wheat beer that's light and tart with the spice and zest of coriander and orange peel - a great warm weather thirst quencher.

Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the root cellar, along comes Grainstorm, a big, wet wallop to the senses. In the glass, dark and turbulent clouds gather. A high-pressure system of pungent hops collides with a stationary front of barley, wheat, and rye. The forecast: a veritable monsoon of flavor, with surges of roasty malt, microbursts of hops, and a chance of golfball-sized hail. The extended outlook calls for unseasonably pleasant enjoyment.

Gramps is a big, burly but bright American Barleywine made to age but standing stately with broad malty shoulders and a good citrus hop backbone.

Gran Gas is a new recipe inspired by a trip to Europe. It was there that John J. first discovered the lingonberry, a tart cousin of the cranberry that originally calls the Scandinavian region home. Inspired by this discovery, the brewers decided to pay homage to the region that brought them this berry by introducing another Scandinavian staple, the hearty spruce tree. Gran Gas, literally translated 'Spruce Goose' in Swedish, was brewed with 220 pounds of hand-picked spruce tips from Colorado, giving the beer a strong piney aroma with a hint of melon. The herbal character of the fresh spruce tips are complemented by the addition of a spicy Belgian yeast. A secondary fermentation with the lingon berries contrasts that spiciness and gives the beer its beautiful reddish-honey hue in a body that finishes tart and slightly sweet. With influences and ingredients from all over the globe, Gran Gas is truly an international drinking experience.
