It Was All A Dream

A wheat India Pale Ale brewed with oats for a silky body. Hopped with Citra and Simcoe and dry hopped with more Citra, Simcoe and Amarillo. Light colored with a medium body and slight malt backbone. A mellow “cousin” to a Northeast IPA. Fruity, Citrusy, and pretty approachable in an IPA sense.

Italian Amber

The fifth beer in our yearlong series of collaborations with Portland restaurants. This blended amber ale was designed with Andy Arndt of Aquariva. We’ve created a sessionable, malty red ale and blended in two small batches of the same beer fermented, respectively, with bay leaf and savory. The spices make this a great “food beer,” but it’s the drinkability and crisp malt profile that will keep bringing you back for more.

It’s About Thyme

It’s About Thyme is a golden orange colored American India Pale Ale brewed with orange blossom honey and fresh thyme. Pungent dank hop aromas blend perfectly with some herbal, bready and light sweet citrus complements. Definitive thyme and fruity apricot-like hops flavors, lead into a sticky hop finish, with an enhanced dryness brought on by the honey’s higher degree of fermentability. The overall bitterness builds as it lingers on the palate. Like many other beers at Shorts, this beer was brewed in honor of commemorating a significant moment through its symbolic existence. It’s About Thyme celebrates the formation of Fermenta: A trade group initiated by Michigan women, committed to diversity, camaraderie, networking and education within the craft beverage industry. Six Short’s ladies brewed this beer along with our brewer.

It’sWhatWeGot IPA

The "It’s What We Got" started as a Beta Brew the day our grain and hops shipment did not show up in time for brew day. Seth took a look into the grain bin and hops freezers and devised a plan to us what was on hand. Now that we carry this as a Flagship it is pretty obvisouse that he knew what he was doing or that we just happen to use the best grains we can get a hold of.

I’ll Have Another 2015

Five Breweries. One Recipe. In May of 2012, during Great Alaska Craft Beer Festival in Haines, several Alaska brewers got together to begin an incredible beer experiment. What would happen if they each brewed the same recipe using their own equipment, their own ingredients, their own water, their own brewery? Would each beer taste the same? They wrote a recipe together on the spot, took it back to their breweries and came together during AK Beer Week in January 2013. The results were fascinating, and tasty! I’ll Have Another is now an annual experiment in fermented revelations. Each May a different recipe is designed during the beer fest in Haines and then brewed by Alaska brewers present at that fest. Then the resulting beers are tapped at Cafe Amsterdam during AK Beer Week each January. In 2015, new Fairbanks establishment The Banks Alehouse also presented these beers during AK Beer Week. 2015 – Belgian Saison with Rye …participating brewers: Broken Tooth Brewing, Denali Brewing, Haines Brewing, HooDoo Brewing, Kenai River Brewing and Midnight Sun Brewing.
