The style of this beer is not so defined that we (brewers) have a single name for it. I hear it called Double Red, India Red Ale, or Imperial Red. I’ve always called it Imperial Red. It’s a big red malty beer hopped like an IPA. Hops: Chinook and Centennial

Such a strong and ugly word, but unfortunately true. Our vintner friend just doesn’t appreciate the depth and character of the aromas and flavors that Brettanomyces creates like we do. Like you do. But the dude has some seriously fine Cabernet Sauvignon barrels that he shared with us to help create this wondrous sour ale. Our lucky #13 in this series. Once the mainstay of British beer, Porter has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years. This dark ale has a deep ruby color and a dominant malt flavor with a light dry roasted character that hints of caramel and chocolate. It is brewed with 2-row pale ale, caramel and chocolate malts and bittered with English hops. The No. 22 Porter pairs well with roasted or grilled meats and vegetables, sweet foods and wild game.

A 100% brettanomyces fermentation gives this brew lots o' funk throughout, intertwined with pungent elements of sour cherries, delicate aromas of aged wood and a gentle spice imparted the zinfandel barrels. Seductive to the core, she lies patiently in the bottle awaiting the day to deflower virgins of the funky flavors of brettanomyces!

Latin for consisting of five parts, Quinquepartite was blended from beers aged in five of the best oak barrels in the Avery cellars: two Cabernet Sauvignon barrels, along with one each of Port, Chardonnay and Zinfandel barrels. The beer achieves a pungent balance, mingling the exotic aromas and flavors of brettanomyces wild yeast with a citric acid-like tartness.
