Don't be afraid of the dark. Our Oatmeal Stout is a little shy but friendly, just like you. You two are gonna hit it off right away. Most beer is brewed entirely with barley but this one includes some oats, a closely-related cereal grain which adds a silky mouthfeel with creamy, long-lasting foam and lace. No harsh burnt notes here, we prefer bready, toasty and rich chocolate notes with a nice soft earthy note from fuggle hops. Full-bodied, warming, and smoooooooth. Employees at the Civil Life have a long running joke with their doctors that tell them to eat oatmeal and they say, "What? Drink my oatmeal?" Then they immediately end the appointment and return to "work".

Our most recent addition to the lineup, this dark, full-bodied roasty ale finishes with a slight oatmeal note on the back end. Oatmeal stout is sweeter than a dry stout, and the oats provide a slightly creamy mouth feel and complexity. It has a slight roasted-grain flavor and aroma, which helps with the dry finish. A subtle background fruity/earthy character from fermentation and hop notes round out the overall impression of this beer.

The notion that Stout was full of goodness encouraged the practice of prescribing Stout for medical purposes and this in turn brought about the trend of “Food Stouts”. The addition of 10% oatmeal gives this ale a distinctive smooth and silky mouth feel, and yes, it’s not just for breakfast anymore.

A rich blend of kilned malts give way to creamy caramel, subtle roastiness, and a hint of vanilla. The oats impart depth of character and a velveteen texture that rounds out all the flavors. Recommended pairings: Nutella filled crepes with shaved hazelnuts and a dusting of cocoa powder. Or as an appetizer, warm sourdough bread with Gruyer.
