Mexicake

Time for a proper fiesta! After brewing Mango Berlinner, we thought to make something that was its complete opposite. Something dark, rich, and packed with big, bold flavours. The discussions led us to a "Mexican Cake" concept, brewing an imperial stout and adding cinnamon, vanilla, cocoa, and chillies. And what a beer it turned out to be! The aroma is mouthwatering, with hints of the vanilla and cocoa used in the brew and a soft cinnamon to prepare you for the taste. One sip and you'll get that smooth, velvety texture that perfectly complements the slight roast flavour from the malt and deep chocolate notes. Two sips, and your mouth will be enveloped in the complex spice notes from the cinnamon and chillies; we used Mulato and Chipotle chillies for a slight fruitiness and to add depth to the spice. In the finish of the first few sips, you'll notice a very low warmth from the chillies and the last mingling hints of the cinnamon and vanilla making you want even more. It pairs beautifully with puddings, and for a summer time twist it works surprisingly well as an ice cream float. Grab a bottle, laze out in the sun, and enjoy our Mexican inspired dessert in a bottle.

Arctic Devil

Arctic Devil Barley Wine, aptly named after the ferocious wolverine of the north, is an English-style (meaning malt-inclined) barley wine. Though the recipe and process for Arctic Devil have evolved over the years, it is brewed once a year then aged in oak barrels for several months before the entire batch is blended, bottled and released. Beginning in 2010, ADBW will be released in late SEP. In its youth, Arctic Devil gnarls and snarls its way across the palate. Containing this beast of a beer for long periods in oak barrels--some having previously aged port, wine or whiskey--tames the unleashed malt and fierce hop flavors, melding and mellowing this powerful liquid into an incredible elixir worthy of a brewer’s table. Each annual batch of Arctic Devil Barley Wine represents the brewers’ resolve to create an intriguing and sought-after barley wine by precisely brewing to well-designed specifications, carefully selecting the type and combination of barrels to use for aging, and meticulously checking the beer as it ages. Distinct nuance and complexity are contributed by the wood’s previous tenants, resulting in unique flavor profiles in each batch that continue to change over time. We invite you to savor Arctic Devil Barley Wine upon its release then cellar some for future enjoyment. Old Potrero (Barrel Aged Old Foghorn)

Anchor Brewing’s latest barrel aged release is a marriage between two classics – maybe more like friends with benefits, but you get the picture. We aged our Old Foghorn Barleywine in freshly emptied Old Potrero Rye Whiskey Barrels for one year to make a beautifully aged Barleywine with a subtle rye whiskey bite. This is a big beer that just got bigger by all that time in the barrel. The color of the beer is deep mahogany and it pours with a frothy, creamy light brown head that laces perfectly on your favorite snifter glass. The aroma is reminiscent of whiskey barrels, fine cigars & riverboat gambling. The taste is velvety smooth, thick with caramelized malty sweetness, and has a gentle slow build towards a slightly chocolaty, roasty finish. Notes of cooked fruit

Raspberry Soak

Soak: our line of sour wheat ales, aged in oak, featuring a variety of single fruit additions. We ferment the base beer with 60% wheat in large oak foeders for several months. Fermentation duties are shared gracefully between our house lactobacillus strain and our Native New England mixed culture. Loosely inspired by the cold-maceration process used in winemaking, we blend fruit directly into the foeders to “soak” for a deep extraction of unique colors, aromatics, and flavors and a refermentation. Delightfully acidic, but not funky, our Soak series is an approachable sequence of wild offerings that we are proud to share. Raspberries bring an assertively tart, yet unsweetened flavor profile, striking crimson hue, and re-enforced tannic structure. Raspberry Soak is dry with undertones of oak and wheat.ABV: 5.5%MALT: Pilsner, White Wheat, Flaked WheatHOPS: US Goldings
