Stonecutter Scotch Ale

We use nine malts blended together to produce layers of caramel, toffee, liquorice, chocolate and roasty flavours. These layers are balanced by a tart, raisiny fruitiness that gradually gives way to give this dark beer a lingering dry finish.

The Discovery

Pioneered in the American state of California, American Pale Ale, or APA for short, was designed to showcase the unique resiny fruitiness of American hops. Here at Renaissance we have given this style a truly New Zealand flavour by using Cascade and Willamette hops that are grown over the hill in Nelson.

Bean Counter

Bean counter is a perfectly balanced and traditional English Porter, "completely ruined" by the addition of Tahitian vanilla! While our traditionalist friends cringe, we celebrate the way the vanilla gently binds the chocolate and espresso notes present in the base beer and adds a warm creamy note. Think a coffee laced creme brulee, and you won’t be far off. The vanilla is subtle though, we didn’t want to offend those traditionalist mates of ours too much after all! It’s there to bring out the underlying flavours of the beer, and complement them with subtlety. It’s not supposed to be a vanilla bomb. We’re sure you’ll get it once you try it!

Bearhat Bock

This beer is much lighter in color and body than our Doppelbock, but Bearhat bock is still definitely a bock-- sweet, malty, and strong. Golden amber in color, deceivingly alcoholic. We bittered this beer with noble hops, but the hops definitely take a back seat to true star of this show, the malt. The equal parts Pilsner and Munich malt we used give this beer a sweet, bready, ever so slightly biscuity flavor.

Das Bier

We decided to call our Kölsch-style beer "Das Bier" (The Beer) because a Kölsch is a standard, solid representation of beer. As usual with we try to stay as close as possible to what a traditional Kölsch is supposed to taste like, although it is our interpretation of the classic style. Bright and clean, Das Bier is perfect for those hot Oregon days. It has a crisp malt character with a touch of hop bitterness. Typically available late May through August.

Hole in the Wall

Hole in the Wall Hefeweizen is a traditional German style wheat beer. Boasts flavors of clove and banana with a slightly tart finish. Note: this beer was not brewed using any spices or fruit, rather the weizen yeast strain we used exclusively for this beer imparts those complex and spicy flavors. Named for the famed backcountry site in Glacier National Park, triple decoction brewed Hole in the Wall Hefeweizen is our attempt at capturing the essence of summer in a glass.

Jeni's Elixir

Beer + Ice Cream: the perfect pair, guaranteed to refresh and delight you on the hottest, most sweltering of summer afternoons in Columbus, Ohio. Jeni and her inspiring team of doers, makers, and scoopers have been celebrating Ohio’s strawberry harvest—specifically that of Hirsch Fruit Farm in Chillicothe—each June with their Strawberry Buttermilk Ice Cream. At Land-Grant, we couldn’t resist brewing up a sublime complement to that annual rite of summer. Elixir, a highly drinkable hibiscus-infused Pale Ale pours a vibrant pink and pairs perfectly with strawberries—either in Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream, or fresh off the vine. Grab a pint and a pint (and a spoon!), and let summer begin.

Madame Brown

Brown Ale, on the surface, it seems a dull colour, a colour synonymous with boring. But drinker, fear not, gaze out upon the browning leaves and meditate on the transience of life's riches as you enjoy this expertly balanced Brown Ale. Upfront malt sweetness like raisins and dried figs, followed by a full bodied caramel richness and a subtle drying finish. Whoever said brown is boring hadn't yet tried Madame Brown, a beer as rich and as elegant as it's name suggests. Enjoy with food or as a meal of it's own.

Muay Thai Octopi

Muay Thai Octopi are brothers that grew up having tentacle fights every night before dinner. In order to channel their energy in a more positive way, their parents sent them to learn Muay Thai Kickboxing. With all those legs they became experts very quickly and dinner time became a more tolerable affair in the Octopi household. However they still have a hard time sitting still in class and have an acute Mountain Dew and MineCraft addiction. They dream of getting a job designing video games or playing, “Sagat” in the next inevitable Street Fighter film remake. M.T.O. features 8 different grains and 8 different hops for a snap kick to the face of juice and dank. Super soft and incredibly creamy in texture.

Paradox

A revamp of our original Paradox - which was a Blonde Ale - we have made some tweaks to the yeast of fermentation to bring you the new, improved, Paradox. As soon as you flip the top off the bottle you know you’re in for something special. While the bright golden hue hints at a great quaffing beer, the explosion of passionfruit and citrus aromas - the signature of the Riwaka hop variety - leave you in no doubt you’re in for more than mere refreshment. On the palate the initial biscuity malt sweetness is soon joined by those zingy hop notes. This beer is flavour-packed, yet crisp and thirst quenching - that’s the paradox! When your thirst is finally slaked, try another glass with the best seafood dish on the menu. Yum!
