Downtown Trolley Brown

Chosen by our guests as one of their favorite specialty beers, this brown ale is freshly brewed in the distinctive American style with a deep garnet hue and more hops and malt than its English counterparts. The use of roasted barley imparts a nut-like flavor. These special ingredients make for a deep, mellow ale that goes great with any meal. Bynum Brown is the same tasty beer, just with a different name appropriate to Pittsboro! Also know as Bynum Brown

Dowser

Dowser is inspired by Alek Jankowski, a professor of Chemistry who believed in the properties and power of water. He practiced the art of dowsing, or searching for ground water with a Y-shaped dowsing rod. This brew has a nice hop presence and crisp malty flavor developed through the traditional German technique of decoction mashing, where a portion of the mash (steeping grain) is boiled. Like dowsing, the utility of decoction mashing is often questioned, but we think the resulting maltiness and creamy mouthfeel speak for themselves.

Dr Funk

Like Shaft, Dolemite and Blacula before him, guess who’s getting his own sequel? That’s right, Dr. Funk is strutting his way back to town for another go round. This Bavarian dark lager was a hit with all the ladies and fellas when the Funk was featured in the Showcase, so we've brought back the grand uncle of dunkel in his own seasonal six-pack.

DR PANGLOSS

Named after the philosopher from Voltaire’s “Candide,” Dr Pangloss viewed most situations with unwarranted optimism. Sarcastic, erratic, and fantastical, this beer lives by the mantra that “all is for the best in the best of all possible worlds.” Not defined by a traditional style, Dr Pangloss is brewed with a blend of six different American hops and a healthy amount of roasted malts to pair with the intense citruses.

The eXtra Pale Ale pairs a clean malt bill with big-time American hop flavors and aromas. We start adding hops the second wort hits the kettle and don’t let up until this beer is in the keg. A simple but delicious combination of classic and new era hops creates bright, tropical, and citrusy flavors. If you’re not yet a Pale Ale fan, stop worrying and learn to love the hops.

Dr. Wilkinson's Dry Irish Stout

As winter wanes, the Irish look to celebrate with the roasty, dry, light-bodied elixir of their forefathers that has become a defining beverage of the Irish. One legend tells of an Englishman who constructed a true-to-style dry stout that his Irish bosses actually preferred to their own in a blind tasting. Dr. Wilkinson regularly and continually impressed his colleagues with his amazingly flavorful drink that had perfected all of the key characteristics of a true Irish stout. Horse & Dragon presents our version of this traditional celebratory style and we pay homage to Dr. Wilkinson with its name. Dark and roasty in taste yet smooth and light in mouthfeel, this drinkable stout is definitely a session worth undertaking! Slainte!
