Goal!den Ale

GOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL! Obviously for our Friends at The Amsterdam Tavern we had to come up with a killer futbol beer and what better way to do it than brew up a "Goal"den ale? Our Gold takes cues from Blonde Ale and even Kolsch style beers with its Pils Malt base, US Saaz Hoppiness, and Ale yeast and I think that the color is pretty darn Golden too. So the next time you are wishing for a nice crisp summer beer or kicked one to the net and need to rip your shirt and yell to the heavens, grab one of these. (Poured on tap June-August 2012)

Goat Boy

So much in brewing is looked at through the eyes of history. With centuries of beer making behind us, it is impossible to ignore traditions. If we did, we’d be doing a disservice to the heritage of our trade. In Germany, brewers have made “bock” beers for hundreds of years. These are dark, malty, lightly hopped beers first brewed in the 14th century in the town of Einbeck. Funny thing about this town’s name – when the style was adopted by brewers in Munich, their Municher accents pronounced “Einbeck” as “ein Bock” which is German for “Billy Goat.” True story. To this day, many visual puns using goats have adorned labels of Bock beers. We’ve enlisted the creative talents of Nate Duval to illustrate “Goat Boy.” The conversation went something like, “Nate, we need a Goat Boy.” He replied, “Goat boy? I can do that.” Our in-house designer (and another guy named Nate) filled in the rest of the graphics. And thus, the continued tradition of goat iconography on bottle labels.

Goat Island Pale Ale

This hoppy American pale ale has a complex American hop character. Its bold flavor comes from generous portions of hops, balanced with just the right malt background. At its debut at the Blue Moose Café and Brew pub, a colorful citizen sang a song he created about the Palomino Motel, (the beer's original namesake). The beer and the song were a big hit.

Gobsmacked batch 3000 IPA

19 years and 3000 batches later, we brewed an India Pale Ale inspired by those classic IPAs brewed in the Burton-upon-Trent region in England, some 150 years ago. Crafted from all British ingredients. Notes of soft pear and faint honey precede the delicate, bready malt body that sets the stage for classic U.K. hops. Floral, earthy, and grassy. A retrospective on a style that continues to inspire a hop revolution today.

Gobsmacked!

Gobsmacked is British slang which literally translates to mean extremely surprised or astonished - and that's what we are trying to achieve with this brew! Gobsmacked Imperial IPA exudes peach notes in the nose, with a cane sugar sweetness in support. Tangerine comes through in the mid palette, with grapefruit in the finish. A smooth, soft and juicy body provides balance in the finish. Gobsmacked Imperial IPA clocks in at 10.0% ABV and 80 IBUs.

God Damn Pigeon Porter

Don't fight it, Spite It! Out God Damn Pigeon Porter was brewed with our friends from across the pond in mind. We use traditional English Amber malt, but being the unruly Americans we are, we put our own happy twist on things. One of our favorite hops, Simcoe, was added late in the bail. This delightful porter will take your mind off the everyday nuisances of living in a big city, especially those f-ing pigeons!

If he only knew how to read. He takes his perch upon the Tribune Tower, beside the gargoyles. He flutters off, headed north this time, towards the brewery. Take cover, he's armed with peanut butter bombs. He might be after more than just our tanks!

Goedenacht

Goedenacht identifies vintage vinifera flavors from an intrepid, but yet delicate integration of constituent parts of a mead, cider and wild beer. Young, Goedenacht is sweet with delicate, almost cider like characteristics. However, during aging (roughly 6 months to 1 year), the brettanomyces and farmhouse strains used during fermentation begin to become more prominent with wild characteristics, along with increasing levels of tartness.

Goggle Fogger Hefeweizen

When this brew first came out of the tanks our brewer took a sip. Then downed some more. He put on his glasses, tilted his head and said "Damn, that's a Goggle Fogger!". The "Hefe" prefix means "with yeast" which gives this unfiltered wheat beer a somewhat cloudy or "foggy" appearance. Light aromas of wheat, bubblegum, clove and spice. Very refreshing with light hop bitterness and flavors of wheat, spice, bubblegum and hints of clove.

Going Awry

Brewed for the autumn season, our GOING AWRY abbey ale pours a rich orange-amber color topped with a sticky, lacy white head. We brewed it with an organic, heirloom rye grown at Thor Oechsner Farm in Newfield, NY, and malted by Andrea Stanley at Valley Malt — the East Coast’s only artisanal micro-malthouse! This exceptional rye contributes a rustic, spicy element that complements the phenolic flavors of our favorite Trappist ale yeast. A touch of caramelized Belgian beet sugar adds a subtle range of dried cherry and toffee flavors dancing in the background, while boosting the ABV and maintaining dryness and drinkability.
