Golden Lilly Lager

German for March beer, which was then lagered in cold cellars until the famed Oktoberfest. You'll love this authentic malty flavour, reminiscent of marshmallow and caramel candies with hints of vanilla and spice, balanced by flowery hops. Tea-like tannins and a subtle mineral water essence in the mouthfeel. Pleasant and surprisingly strong with a clean bittersweet aftertaste.

Golden Newt

Pale in colour with prominent hoppy palate and full flavoured finish, Golden Newt is a pale session bitter of 4.1% ABV. The beer has a prominent hop character; a blend of Fuggles, Goldings and Cascade has been used in the recipe to bring the delicate hop flavour and aroma to the fore. The use of Cascade gives a pleasing citrus aroma. Finest pale Maris Otter malt has been blended with wheat malt and rye crystal to provide a full flavoured beer. The lavish use of late hop dominates the malt flavour and results in a satisfying pint.

Golden Number Ale

A golden ale is a delicate balance of malt and hops. To achieve this perfect balance, the ratio of malt and hops is based upon the actual golden number, the Fibonacci Sequence, or Phi as the Greeks knew it. This number’s pervasive appearance throughout nature creates a sense of balance, harmony and beauty in art, architecture, composition, space – and now beer! Some believe this number is a universal constant of design, the signature of God. (Some believe it is a perfect ratio of malt and hops.) And for those of you playing along at home, the actual number is 1.6180339887…..

Golden Opportunity

In the spirit of a true session beer we present the Golden Opportunity, a beer modeled after the classic styles of Koln, Germany, but which deliberately lacks the enhanced fruitiness of the typical American interpretation. Straw-like in color with a dense white head, this medium-bodied brew has a light, pleasant malt aroma with a hint of sweetness and faint bitterness. It is clean, well-balanced and suitably carbonated for a crisp, refreshing feel.

Golden Ram Belgian Golden Strong

At Horse & Dragon we celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Ram with this flavorful take on a classic Belgian Golden Strong Ale. Seductive honey blonde in color with a thinly veiled Belgian laced head, the Golden Ram presents an inviting appearance and aroma. Traditional Belgian yeast characteristics – slight banana and clove and a hint of other exotic spices – are present to introduce you to this flavorful, drinkable but full-bodied refreshing ale. Depending on what you’ve just eaten (or haven’t), this beer’s flavor will change, chameleon-like, through an array from fruity to bready. By adding few more hops than called for in the traditional style, Linsey has kept this beer from veering into overly-sweet territory. We appreciate that! We tapped this beer for the first time on the first day of the Year of the Ram (or Sheep), 2/19/15, and we hope this ale is enjoyed with enormous and celebratory gatherings of friends & family.

Golden Revolution

Back in May of 2006, Sam Calagione visited the Herold Brewery in Prague to brew an adaptation of our Golden Shower - known as Golden Revolution. Golden Revolution is an Imperial Pilsner Sam and Pivovar Herold Bfieznice brewers came up with using traditional Czech brewing techniques, local ingredients, and spring water from Herold's castle grounds to create what is quite possibly the first high alcohol, dry-hopped monster beer from Eastern Europe. Pivovar Herold's Golden Revolution was available in the United States exclusively through Michael Jackson's Rare Beer Club as the November 2006 featured selection.

Golden Rey

An ALE that's very pale and at times cloudy in appearance due to it being unfiltered and the high level of wheat that's used in the mash. This beer has complex array flavors ranging from banana, clove, tropical fruit, to pepper corn. The crispness and slight twang comes from the wheat and the lively level of carbonation.

Golden Saisonshine

A ‘saison’ (French for season) has been traditionally brewed in the south of Belgium (Wallonia) or the north of France during the cooler months following harvest and then stored in cellars or under piles of hay until the summer months when it is brought out to enjoy. These beers were originally low ABV beers as the workers would drink during the day when working in the fields. Over the past 25 years or so, the alcohol content has risen to become a more robust beer while still retaining the original characteristics of the style. Appearance – Hazy orange gold color with a nice head full of very tight bubbles. Aroma – Wide range of character but in Golden Saisonshine look for notes of wheat, lemon, biscuit and some earthy barnyard character like moist hay. Flavor – Wheat, light lemon, spice, and grass with a mild bitterness. Mouthfeel – light bodied with some residual hoppy grassy character Finish – Lingering

Golden Spice

We used spicebush leaves, twigs and dried berries from Integration Acres, local honey from Cantrell, and some locally organic grown Willamette hops from our friend Steve Patterson. The base style is a golden ale that will showcase the lemon/ pine characters from the spicebush leaves and twigs. The dried berries add a bit of an allspice aroma and flavor. I chose to use honey because in many of the colonial spicebush tea recipes I referenced honey was used. Round it out with some local hops and we have a sustainable beverage to keep everyone happy.

Golden Spur Saison

Our Spring Seasonal, Golden Spur Saison, is light in color and very dry - but don't let that fool you. This brew hits 6.7% ABV and the Saison yeast used in this beer packs quite a flavor wallop. We fermented it warm at 75 - 85 degrees Fahrenheit for increased yeast flavor enhancing the banana, clove and fruit flavor compounds the yeast naturally produces and imparting a slightly sour taste to the beer due to a small increase in acidity. The beer gets its name from the Battle of the Golden Spurs in the City of Courtrai on July 11th, 1302. The city is located in Flanders (just north of Wallonia - the origin of Saison), so we imagine the victorious defending militia drank copious amounts of Saison. To commemorate this, we've named our beer after the battle. (NOTE: There's no historical evidence that the militia drank Saison after the battle - it's just what we would have done).
