Each autumn's hop harvest presents an opportunity to assess yearly variation in flavors. Some are broad across all the plants in a region, others are specific to unique clones and certain farms. Each fall we choose two different varities to add to our Harvest Ale. The first we receive straight off the bines and add it wet in the whirlpool. The second we add whole cone as a dry hop. Our base is a simple pale with a touch of rye spiciness to be seasonally appropriate with enough heft to support the selected hops while otherwise existing to flaunt the year's crop's nuances. Harvest 2012 was wet hopped with Citra from B.T. Loftus Ranches, Inc. and dry hopped with Amarillo from Virgil Gamache Farms. Drink it because it is a fresh taste of things to come.

This liquid dream pours a hazy golden straw color with a white, two-finger head. Your first sip rewards you with a super juicy hop presence bursting with fresh citrus, then finishes to introduce toasted malt undertones.

This beer is now brewed under the name "Sierra Nevada Northern Hemisphere Harvest" The cornerstone of our Harvest series is the beer that started the modern-day fresh hop ale phenomenon in America, our original Harvest Ale. Created in 1996, Harvest Ale features Cascade and Centennial hops from the Yakima Valley in Eastern Washington. These hops are harvested and shipped as wet un-dried hops the same day they are pickedto our brewery in Chico where our brewers eagerly wait to get them into the brew kettle while their oils and resins are still at their peak.

The perfect blend of sweet and savory is the distinctive feature of Berkley's Harvest Ale. It's rich, malty flavor, makes this Oktoberfest-style ale not only very drinkable, but also the ideal autumn treat.

Brewed for early-mid. Autumn consumption, Fest-Ale takes its inspiration from the venerable traditions of German Oktoberfest and Vienna Marzen style of beers. Employing a blend of German Munich and Vienna malts as a base, Fest-Ale displays brilliantly clear reddish, orange hues evocative of the vibrant, rich, and deep colors that seemingly surface overnight on local Vine Maple and Aspen trees this time of year in the Northwest. Fermented at low temperatures, ester production is greatly inhibited allowing for a rounded, yet crisp malt character to fully emerge. German Hersbrucker and Czech Saaz hops contribute a moderately spicy, earthy flavor accent to this otherwise unctuously smooth brew. Prost!

A beautiful red-orange beer with rich malty flavors that were "harvested" from an extra long boil in the kettle and balanced with the addition of Simcoe and Crystal hops. This is a full bodied beer, which is perfect for our cool fall evenings in the Northwest. This autumn seasonal has only a distant connection to the German "Oktoberfest" style from which it gets its inspiration. Maltiness is the predominate flavor component of any true Oktoberfest style and also really stands out in our Harvest Ale.

Harvest Ale is a limited edition vintage barley wine, made once and once only from the first hops of the year and the very finest British malt. The beer quickly gained a cult following of ale enthusiasts who recognised its quality and relish in the different flavours each vintage brings and the evolution that comes with ageing over time. In the past 29 years, the beer has grown in popularity and in some bars around the world it has gained legendary status, with older vintages being highly sought after and changing hands for up to $60 per bottle.

Fresh Hop IPA

The ingredients of Harvest Ale directly reflect our interest in local agriculture and tradition. The malt comes from barley grown in Michigan specifically for Bell’s, much of it on our own farm near Shepherd MI, while the whole-cone hops were plucked from bines across Michigan. The home-grown malt has a distinctive candied apple character that pairs well with the mixture of grassy & fruity hop aroma, yielding a very drinkable celebration of the harvest. The ingredients of Harvest Ale directly reflect our interest in local agriculture and tradition. The malt comes from barley grown in Michigan specifically for Bell’s, much of it from our own farm in Shepherd, while the Michigan hops were plucked from bines across the state including those from Hop Head Farms in nearby Hickory Corners. The home-grown malt has a distinctive candied fruit character that pairs well with the mixture of piney & fruity hop aromas, yielding a very drinkable celebration of the harvest.

Harvest Ale is a 6.2% “wet-hop” IPA made from pale, munich, crystal, and wheat malts. It is hopped with a bounty of cascade hops straight from the brewery’s own farm! The bitterness is restrained to allow the fresh-hop aroma and flavor to shine through. You will find grassy notes with hints of citrus zest in this refreshing ale. Since this beer can only be made with newly matured hops just hours off the vine, its release date is somewhat in the hands of Mother Nature. We know that it will fall sometime around the beginning of September. Keep your eye out for this one. You will want to drink this one as fresh as possible!

Autumn – season of color and of transition from light to dark. Rust colored with a noble hop presence, our Harvest Ale is brewed in the Oakshire Tradition – thoughtfully crafted, original and delicious.

A fresh & clean, leafy & grassy citrus pale ale brewed with fresh whole-cone Cascade hops grown in Michigan. It's a close cousin of the Dutchtown Harvest, the first keg to go on our grand opening night. Resinous and a bit sticky with medium bitterness; mild and calming, like a green tea brewed with hops.

We brewed this ale with 80lbs of Santiam hops grown in the Willamette Valley. Within 4 1/2 hours all the hops in this brew went from the vine into the boil. What this gives you is a vey aromatic brew wtih plenty of fresh hop bitterness. So enjoy it now, as fresh as it can get, and as it transforms to a more subtle hop profile.
