our entry for Brewers of Indiana Guild 2011 Winterfest is a historical recreation of a famous New Albany beer, Ackerman's Imperial Double Stout, which was originally brewed once a year at Easter as a treat for the brewery's customers and as a substitute for Doppelbock, traditionally served during lent. The official brewery name was Southern Indiana Ice and Beverage Company, but was locally known as Ackerman's Brewery. Brands included Amsterdamer Bock, Ackermans, Great Eagle, Royal Munich, Vienna Select, Old Rip, Imperial Double Stout, India Pale Ale, and Daniel Boone. The brewery, unable to make a profit in a competitive city, closed on November 15, 1935.
