Berserker

Berserkers were Germanic warriors who fought with an uncontrollable, trance-like ferocity. Our amber IPA is inspired by this passion, but with the additional reassurance of it having rarely invoked a desire in drinkers to partake in a bloodthirsty rampage...hardly ever*. This is a big beer. It pours a deep, radiant amber with a decent head. The nose reveals floral and tropical fruit aromas from the Mosaic dry-hopping, and roast and toffee notes from a complex malt profile. The taste presents a solid bitterness; however, the malt backbone and late in the boil/dry-hop additions balance this with a rich caramel/burnt sugar sweetness and elevating citrus and tropical fruit notes.

Berserker Imperial Stout

Vicious and viscous, this menacing brew pours opaque black with a creamy maduro-colored head. Its aroma offers seductive whiskey, chewy red wine, dark fruit and lavish tobacco. Berserker Imperial Stout invades your taste buds with in-your-face flavor. Weighing in at almost 13% alcohol by volume, Berserker is completely out-of-control. Give it a good fight. This version of Berserker Imperial Stout was aged in both red wine and whiskey barrels. The entire batch was brought back together before being packaged in kegs and 22-oz bottles.

Bert's Disqualified Imperial Stout

Berkshire County homebrewer Bert Holdredge won the ‘Brewers Choice’ prize in the 2011 New York City Homebrew Competition with this recipe (the prize was for a commercial batch to be brewed on our system) – but was disqualified from the official BJCP competition since he’d forgotten to remove a label from a bottle. (Barrel Aged) A pleasingly plump lass, this oatmeal stout is a little hoppier than most, with a hefty and full-bodied oatmeal flavor. Best Bitter

By using the best quality ingredients and the traditional Yorkshire Square fermenting system, we created a light, clean drinking pint with plenty of bite. From its humble beginnings we’re proud to say that Black Sheep Best Bitter is now one of the best-selling session beers in the country and by far the biggest selling beer we produce. Although we now produce Best Bitter on a national scale, we still use time-honoured traditional brewing techniques and the highest quality ingredients to create this archetypal Yorkshire bitter which is undoubtedly one of the finest beers of its type.

Best Bitter

Theakston Best Bitter is the leading session ale within the Theakston portfolio and has been for time immemorial. It is quite possible that when Robert Theakston founded the brewery in 1827 the range of ales would have been limited to just two or three of which almost certainly, one would have been a bitter beer. Consequently it would be reasonable to argue that Theakston Best Bitter is one of the longest established session ales in Yorkshire. When we refer to a ‘bitter’ beer, the term does not mean sour as in lemons, but dry as in ‘dry white wine’. So Best Bitter is a full bodied, dry beer. We use five different hop varieties to make our Best Bitter forming a complex but subtle taste profile. The combination of dryness as generated through the use of Target and Challenger hops, is balanced by sweetness created by the generous use of prime malting Barley providing the perfect accompaniment to a wide variety of food flavours as found in a Ploughman’s lunch for instance.

Best Blonde Ale

A beer true to its roots. This ale is brewed with all German ingredients and is similar in style to the great Kolsch beers of Cologne, Germany. This ale boasts a generous portion of pale malt blended with light wheat and crystal malt providing a crackery and wheaty aroma and taste. The ale is fermented at cooler temperatures with yeast that delivers a winey and slight fruitiness to the beer. The sweetness of the brew is harnessed by the slight dryness of Noble German Hops as well as the colder fermentation temperatures. The soft water used is similar to the water in Cologne, Germany and provides a perfect background and finish to the beer. The late addition in the kettle of lemon peel enhances the fruitiness.

Best Extra Porter

Murray's Best Extra Porter is an unconventional Imperial/Robust Porter. Murray's Best Extra Porter is made with selected roast malts. This special beer is full bodied, rich and complex. Pouring with an intensely deep-ruby colour and creamy off-white head, Murray's Best Extra Porter has an aroma of caramel and bittersweet chocolate, which follows through in the flavour and finishes with a firm, but balanced bitterness. Due to the style of the beer, we have purposely lowered the bottle carbonation to give it a more rounded and smooth mouth feel.
