Not a common IPA style, the dark roast malt base is accentuated by CTZ hops along with hints of Chinook and Pacific Jade. This gives the beer a woodsy, herbal aroma and flavor with hints of berry.

Sprecher Black IPA contains seven varieties of malt balanced with a generous amount of predominately Cascade hops. This medium-bodied beer begins smoothly with roasty flavors thanks to the malts, and has a pleasantly bitter finish thanks to the hops. It is both a big beer and delicate one. Every sip will keep your palate engaged.

Many full moons have passed by and along with them, old recipes have been tucked away – some forever – in dusty, sometimes forgotten nooks, crannies and cabinets in all of our breweries. However, certain beers have a way of establishing their footholds and carrying forward, largely on their own momentum. Originally created at the Thompson Brewery over 20 years ago on October 15, 1991 and made by all Thompson Brewers to come after, Black Widow has become an expected and welcome Halloween treat at the Thompson Public House in Salem. More recently Black Widow has expanded her web to include other breweries and outposts in the last few years. This year, however, her web has enveloped the entire company, as every McMenamins brewery will be making a batch. Preparing for this year’s brew, ale-houses warmed to the task with vats of striking hot water. Mysterious sacks of grain were shuffled to steaming mash cauldrons. Madcap laughs were heard in darkened aging-cellars and Thompson’s stairway to nowhere. And brewers bared fangs as well as souls in the ritual preparation of this year’s Halloween brew. Each deep-black goblet of Black Widow is packed full of the robust notes afforded by generous amounts of black and roast malts and further spirited with ethereal wisps of caramel and licorice. Both substantial and sublime, this elixir is sure to slake the most fiendish of thirsts. Open up a creaking pub door, find a seat with friends and family, and nourish your inner ghoul with a brew steeped in tradition and mystery. A good howl at the Cheshire moon couldn’t hurt, either.

Uniquely different Dark Wheat Ale. This beer is brewed with a touch of Star Anise at the end of the boil giving it a clean smooth finish with a hint of liquorish. Caution, this beer will bite you if not careful.

Hard hitting, with a big citrus punch, this black IPA was created to honor our local roller derby teams. Midnight Wheat Malt is the star of this ale, imparting its dark colors with a combination of light roast flavor. Falconer’s Flight hops give this ale a big citrus flavor with mid to late, and dry hop additions. American yeast leaves this beer with a clean, crisp finish.

Black’s Dusk: a hearty stout brewed with brown sugar and oats, aged in red wine barrels for 5-8 months. With its robust, silky quality, a hint of red wine and toasted oak it seems to parallel a dusk occean swell. This beer is to be sipped and savored with friends just as you would savor the last moments of daylight at the beach.

Black-Eye Rye is an American-style India Black Ale brewed with rye. Inspired by the popularity of this unique and interesting style, it pours midnight black and features a fluffy cappuccino colored head. Don't let the dark color fool you though, because this is Red Brick's hoppiest beer yet! The aroma features complex tropical fruit notes of mango and peach intermingling with classic citrus and pine, as well as a slight hint of cocoa. The flavor is resinous and piney, complimented by a velvety mouth-feel, and finishes with lingering notes of grapefruit and bittersweet chocolate. It's sure to keep you coming back round after round!

When checkered blackball flags dot the California coastline, experienced surfers migrate to advanced breaks where strangers to the sport dare not. Blackball is a Belgian-inspired India Pale Ale with a robust West Coast hop profile. Belgian ale yeast, coriander, and Curacao lend a fruity and spicy character for an ale bolder than your average IPA. A blend of New Zealand and Cascade hops add a vibrant floral aroma and clean citrus hop bitterness that lingers through its crisp, dry finish. Drink up while it’s young, heavily hopped IPA’s are best enjoyed fresh.

While almost opaque, Blackbeard Dark Lager is remarkably light in character. It’s deep color comes from a complex variety of malts making the beer almost sweet rather than bitter. The chocolate finish is crisp and clean across the palate. It complements a wide variety of foods.

As dark as the legend of Blackbeerd himself, behold the Imperial Stout. Sweet malts battle roasted grain on the decks of yer tongue. Like a blast from a cannon, hop are followed by smoked malt. Hold on to yer booty, a dark stouts a brewin'.

A great summer fruit beer, with 168 pounds of blackberry puree added to a light ale base. The blackberries add a distinct purple haze, and hopping is light to allow the berries to be the featured flavor. The ABV is 5.2% and hop bitterness is 22 BU's.
