The classic Gaffel Koelsch is a particularly fresh speciality beer from Cologne, brewed according to a time-honoured family recipe and the German Purity Law of 1516 with water, malt, hops, and hops extract. The delicately bitter, pleasant, slightly hopsy taste is characteristic of this traditional product and clearly distinguishes Gaffel Koelsch from all other Koelsch brands.

Pale yellow in color, and pours with a persistent frothy white head. Carries delicate herbal aromas, with hints of pineapple pear, and green apple, with a crisp yet smooth maltiness. Brewed with Weyermann Pilsner and Pale malt, Northern Brewer and Spalt hops, and our proprietary German ale yeast strain.

This beer style originates in Köln, Germany and is very well known for being lighter bodied, slightly hazy, crisp and refreshing. It is fermented with an ale yeast that acts similar to a lager yeast and performs well in lower temperatures. To further enhance the crisp qualities imparted by this unique yeast, we use wheat as part of the grain bill and the slightly spicy and crisp German Tetnang hops. All in all an easy drinking, very thirst quenching beer, perfect for a day in the sun or paired with a light flavored fish.

This bier is delicate and pale with less bitterness than a Pils and less sweetness than a Helles. A subtle fruitiness is the hallmark of this classic style from Köln. Along with Alt, this is one of the last ale holdouts in Germany

The kolsch is light in color and has a bouquet of lemon and wheat. The style is clean and has light, bready malt tones. A laid back bitterness finishes the beer, making it a refreshing and affable pint.

Our Kolsch is a bright, light-bodied, moderately hopped golden ale/lager hybrid beer. We ferment and age it at lower temperatures than most of our ales to make it especially smooth, clean and refreshing. "Crisp" and "spritzy" are words that might come to mind when you try it.
