Mayford’s Appalachian India Pale Ale (IPA) is a bold statement from a mustache clad Irishman. Named after my late father, Larry Mayford, this brew will sneak up on you with a 2×4 and smack you in the jaw. Heavily hopped, wonderfully malted with local WNC grains, and an aroma that will make you want to stand on the South Holston River and pull in Rainbows all day long.

Mayhawk is a Louisiana take on a Belgian Golden Strong Ale. Brewed with the finest Pilsner and Wheat malts, Noble Hops and large amounts of candy sugar. A traditional Belgian yeast strain provides a bright blend of subtle fruit and spicy notes. These fruity notes are enhanced by the addition of Louisiana Mayhaw Berries which leaves a slightly tart finish and subtle haziness. This ale has a medium body, moderate hop bitterness and a mild alcohol warmth with an effervescent palate. A sipping beer to savor.

Maylani’s Coconut Stout is an easy drinking beer with the subtle aromas of chocolate and coconut, thanks to the 10 pounds of locally sourced cocoa nibs and fifty pounds of toasted coconut added to each batch. Ebony in color with a rich creamy head, the beer features a mellow flavor of oats, chocolate malt and real chocolate, perfectly balanced with the right amount of hops for a bittersweet finish. Featuring an approachable 35 IBUs and 5.3 percent ABV, it pairs well with almost any dessert, and of course, tastes delicious just on its own.

Triple Brown Ale brewed with coffee. Dark Brown with a tan, crema-like head. Strong coffee and notes of chocolate on the nose.

Maz, formerly known as Mazarin, is my take on a “thinker’s beer”. Rather than being big and undecipherably complex, I wanted to create something that would calm a hop yearning nerve without fuddling the brain too much. In other words, a lavishly hopped ale of judicious ABV — an Extra Special Pale Ale if you will. In November 2014 we doubled the hop bill.

Bananas are the main ingredient in mbege style beers popular in Eastern Africa. In keeping with tradition, this is brewed with real bananas and presented unfiltered. Light hints of banana remain present in the aroma and flavor of this unique offering. Originally conceived of in an effort to provide a traditional African style beer for Milwaukee's African World Festival, our Mbege and Shakparo have won the hearts of people here at the brewery and have been promoted to year round beer status. Because barley and wheat are not grown in large quantities in sub-Saharan Africa, traditional Mbeges and Shakparos are brewed with sorghum and millet and are therefore able to be brewed gluten-free since neither sorghum nor millet contain gluten. Being gluten-free make Shakparo and Mbege excellent alternatives for those suffering from celiac disease, a genetic disorder that inhibits the digestion of gluten. Our Shakparo and Mbege offerings have been brewed with celiacs in mind and are carefully crafted to ensure they remain gluten-free.

A thick, rich and robust Porter, brewed with cinnamon, bacon and bacon fat washed cold brew coffee.

Long ago and faraway in the Scottish highlands, old S.F. McBreezley brewed a chocolately brown ale. It was this sturdy brew which saw him through his cold and damp stints minding the family sheep herd. A century later, SRB brewer Steve Breezley updated his great, great granpa’s classic with a generous dose of American style hops but with all the chocolate malt retained from the original. North American Brewers Fest 2010 – Bronze

This beer has a caramel front with a roasted dry and slightly hoppy finish.

McCool’s Hazelnut Porter is full bodied yet extremely drinkable. Notes of coffee, roasted malt and a pleasant, but not overwhelming background of hazelnuts. Perfect for that bright yet blustery fall afternoon.

Deep brown colour. A chocolate and caramel body with a lingering sweet finish. Originally brewed by McEwan’s at the Fountain brewery in Edinburgh. Production moved from Fountain to the Caledonian Brewery in 2004. The McEwan’s brand passed to Heineken in 2008 after their purchase of Scottish & Newcastle’s British operations. Heineken sold the brand to Wells & Youngs in 2011. Packaged (bottle & can) McEwan’s beers are produced at Wells & Youngs brewery in Bedford.

You’ll have heard that looks can be deceiving. Well, McEwan’s Champion Ale is Exhibit A in proving that statement true. William McEwan would have been proud of it.

McEwan’s IPA can trace its heritage back to the 1860s ale that was made for the 18,000 mile journey to India. After being unpacked it was dispatched inland to provide relief for workers toiling beneath the unforgiving sub-continental sun. It tasted so good it’s a wonder each barrel reached its destination.
