Pro-AM 2010 "Smoked Porter"

The Smoked porter is black in color, and has a pronounced smoky nose with accents of chocolate and roast malt. The mouth-feel is full with more smoky flavors giving way to chocolate and caramel. The maltiness of this beer is nicely balanced by using a moderate amount of Pacific Northwest hops. Pro-Am 2014 "Scottmunder"

Scott Satterthwaite won our 2014 Homebrew Competition with his version of the Dortmunder Export- a classic, pale golden lager style hailing from Dortmund, Germany. True Dortmunder Export Lagers feature sweet, biscuity malt flavors and a full body, balanced with a good hop bite and spicy hop aroma. Scott's recipe executed each of these perfectly, earning him the title of “Best of Show” in this year's field of over four hundred beer entries. We're excited to have had the chance to brew this beer with Scott on our full system, and are counting down the days until we can start drinking pints of it with our Tasting Room guests. Come October, we’ll be entering this beer on Scott’s behalf in the 2014 Great American Beer Festival Pro-Am Competition. Will it go all the way? Stay tuned! - See more at: http://hangar24brewery.com/co_proam_scottmunder.htm#sthash.F7fUuXN4.dpuf

Pro-Am IPA

Our first Pro-Am beer based on the winner of our first homebrew competition. This West Coast style IPA utilizes the finest Marris Otter malt for a profound malt back bone to stand up to the aggressive hop profile. Fifteen different hop additions of six different varieties make this beer a truly complex and flavorful IPA. This brew was a collaboration between the Hangar 24 Brew Staff and Homebrewer Dwight Mulcahy. Dwight has been homebrewing for over six years. He first caught the brewing bug while living in Germany. The inspiration for this IPA came from his many travels around California and the great IPAs he has sampled. This recipe has won him many awards including the Best of Show at Hangar 24's Inaugural Competition.

Pro-Am Porter

A collaboration with local home brewer Keith Antul. Inspired by the Great American Beer Festival’s Pro-Am competition we chose Keith’s American Homebrewers Association competition medaling robust porter recipe and scaled it up and brewed a batch with him at Wormtown. This limited one off batch is extremely dark brown with hints of red when held up to the light. Large roasted chocolate aroma. Medium body complimented by strong malt flavor that mixes roasty malt and chocolate. Dry finish with lingering cocoa and roast accented hop bitterness. Very British in style and ingredients. Professor Gesser’s Mind Numbing Ale

BBC’s version of an India Ale Ale, named as such because of its popularity with British Troops in colonial India. The beer’s alcoholic strength and high hopping rates (hops also act as a preservative) helped it withstand the long ocean voyage from England. Brewed with lots of pale ale malt and caramelized wheat and barley, we then add large quantitites of American Columbus, Simcoe and Cascade hops. Then we allow the hot wort to run through a bed of raw hops (known as the hopback) prior to fermentation. This process adds a burst of hop aroma and flavor. Big, bold and bitter, just like Jeff Gesser.

Prohibition Pauly

Our clandestine friend Pauly tells the story this way... Porters were brewed in the US for more than two centuries but after prohibition it pretty much slept with the fishes. Now, thanks to some pioneering craft brewers, the American Porter is back and thriving. A rich and flavorful, dark, robust brew with aromas and flavors of chocolate, caramel, hints of coffee and roast, with a clean bitter hop finish. We invite you to taste our tribute to the American Porter. It's almost illegally good. Just ask for Pauly.
