Flower Child

Celebrating our local culture, we brewed a summer ale using a spice and sugar found in many Mexican desserts. Flower Child incorporates dried chamomile flower, piloncillo sugar, and lemon zest to make a dark-colored but light drinking ale. This "dark shandy" has a light refreshing body, bright citrus aroma, chamomile flavor, and the complexity of the unrefined piloncillo. On a hot Texas day, mix it hald-and-half with carbonated lemonade for a twist on a "radler." Any way you enjoy it, we say cheers and thanks for tryingFlower Child!

Flowering Citrus Ale - Lips of Faith

A beautiful summer day in Antwerp; the sun pours past the belfry and rooftops and floods into the market center. A ballet of brightly colored shoppers twists and twirls through the commotion, pinwheels of color against the cobblestone square. You find two seats on the café’s patio, ordering beers to pair with the bustling view: De Koninck Flowering Citrus Ale. This Lips of Faith collaboration with Antwerp’s historic De Koninck Brewery is a delightful burst of citrus and flowers, keeping pace with the color and commotion of summer. Sit back and enjoy the pop of key lime and whole lemons; breath in the fragrance of hibiscus, rose petals and strawberry-tinged Mistral hops; toast to life’s pleasant surprises. Floyd's Folly

The life of an old-time cutter? Well, it wasn’t always long but it could be just long enough to benefit generations. Floyd McCoy is a fine example. He cut around central Indiana until injured by a limestone slab in 1959. And while he finally succumbed to his wounds, it wasn’t before starting a fine legacy of his own, by grandfathering one of the founders of Cutters Brewing Co. Our salute is a Scotch Ale worthy of his name. Floyd’s Folly pours a nice amber color with a light tan head and boasts of full-roasted malt and caramel flavors. One taste and you’ll be thanking old Floyd, too.

Fluffy White Rabbits

Our first Spring, we brought you a magical tree full of waving babies… and the Baby Tree has stuck around, we’re happy to say. So for our second Spring, and each Spring since, we’ve made a pale gold, hoppy triple called Fluffy White Rabbits. This is a fun and Springy beer: possibly even our fun-est beer. In Yorkshire, they say “White Rabbits” on the first of the month for luck, and here’s to a lovely warm Springtime for all of us! The beer is 8.5% abv, with Saaz, Styrian Goldings and Amarillo hops added aplenty. Fluffy mouthfeel: yes, really! There’s a faint sweetness with tropical fruit undertones. Fluffy White Rabbits is a very “Pretty Things” take on a Triple. We use what we think are the finest ingredients around: malts from Weyermann (Germany) and Fawcett (Yorkshire) in this beer. It’s a fun one, we hope you enjoy it!

Fluxus

Every year, we brew Fluxus to celebrate the anniversary of our first beer sold—July, 1995. The name Fluxus is Latin for “continuous change” and in the spirit of change, every year we brew Fluxus with a different recipe. This year, Fluxus is a mixed-fermentation saison-style ale brewed with rhubarb. The combination of Brettanomyces and Saison yeast results in complex fruit aromas reminiscent of apricot, mango, and pineapple. Notes of citrus and biscuit combine to create a slightly sour and slightly sweet flavor that finishes with a hint of dry acidity.

Fluxus '07

Brewed with Belgian Pilsner Malt and 25% Rye malt, the beer is full-bodied with a spicy, herbal taste. A floral note arises with the addition of Yarrow, which is a flowering plant that was historically used as an alternative to hops. The beer is hopped with Warrior and Brewers Gold which impart a subtle bitterness.

Our 2008 Fluxus is a double white beer brewed with spices and fresh grated ginger. A double white beer calls for twice the amount of malted and raw wheat, which casts an elegant cloudiness over this mango-colored beer. The aroma boasts of herbal and minty notes, as well as hints of clove and candied ginger. Fluxus offers a perfectly balanced flavor with a warm, clean finish and a lingering spiciness.

Fluxus '09

Fluxus '09 was brewed in the style of the traditional Saison. For our twist, we added sweet potatoes, black pepper and a generous amount of hops. Sweet potatoes not only enhance its pale orange appearance, they contribute significant body. Centennial hops produce a bold grapefruit aroma, which is followed by a mild, honeysuckle sweetness. The intensity of both the pepper and hops are felt throughout, leaving a lingering warmth on the tongue. Papya, citrus and pepper dominate the flavor profile.

Fluxus '10

Weighing in at 10.3% ABV, it is one of the strongest beers that Allagash has ever brewed. This beer utilized a unique brewing process that used wort from a smaller brew, as the "water" for mashing the grain for this brew. Maine grown barley was used as the base for this grain bill that also included a blend of three roasted malts and oats. Fluxus was appropriately hopped with both US Saaz and Glacier hops. Just before knock out, fifty pounds of Taza roasted Cacao nibs were added to the whirlpool. The result is a thick, sticky stout with tons of both roasted and chocolate flavors, aromas of tobacco and cocoa, and a surprisingly sweet, creamy finish.

Fluxus '11

This year's Fluxus was brewed with Belgian pilsen malt, light munich, malted wheat and a variety of aromatic and colored malts. It was hopped using only Alsatian Brewers Gold . It was then fermented with our house yeast at a lower than typical temperature, resulting in a more subdued ester profile than expressed in our other house yeast beers. Primary fermentation was followed by a cold maturation or "garding" period of six weeks. The resulting beer is a medium amber colored ale with a smooth lager quality. The aroma presents a complex earthiness and toasted grains, balanced by a fruity candied grape character. The full body highlights a rounded maltiness accentuated by both nutty notes, and spicy hop flavors. The finish is remarkably dry with a wine-like character and light tannins.

Fluxus '12

Allagash Fluxus is a beer of continuous change. Brewed differently every year to commemorate our anniversary, this year's Fluxus is a strong golden ale brewed with a mix of barley and spelt, and spiced with both green and pink peppercorns. It was lightly hopped using Northern Brewer, Cascade and Saaz varieties. It was then fermented with with a yeast indigenous to the northern region of Belgium. The resulting beer is a hazy, golden colored ale with herbal and spice notes throughout. The aroma is both fruity, with hints of mango, and spicy, with notes of clove and pepper. The medium body gives way to a subtle malt presence and dry finish, with a surprising residual sweetness and a mild peppery heat.

Fluxus '13

Allagash Fluxus is a beer of continuous change. Brewed differently every year to commemorate our anniversary, this year's Fluxus is a porter brewed with a blend of 2-row, coffee and chocolate malts with blood orange pulp and zest. It was hopped using Perle, Tettnang and Glacier varieties. It was then fermented with a Belgian Abbey yeast. The resulting beer is dark brown in color with chocolate and roasted notes throughout the flavor and aroma. The blood orange has a subtle presence in the aroma and the zest expresses itself in the mouth-drying finish by leaving a lingering bitterness. This full bodied ale was the creation of Allagash brewer Patrick Saville, lover of heavy metal, beer and all things dark. As part of our Tribute Series, Allagash proudly donates $1 per bottle sold to the Allagash Pediatric Nurses Scholarship at the Maine Medical Center. This scholarship directly supports the training of nurses in the field of pediatrics. Yay baby nurses!
